Prince on American Idol

If the 19-year-old pre-For You era Prince tried to make it in show business through winning on American Idol or one of the other TV talent search shows like Popstars or Star Search, do you think he would have won the contest and become a star?

hmmm most of the kids entering these tv/contests are performers/singers only they don't play 20+ instruments and create their own music, so I couldn't even imagine a 19 year old prince even thinking about going that route...

Don't think he would have had any desire to take part in it.

That's partly true, but he also wouldn't be able to impress the judges that way, unless he came out onstage with a band and then rotated, or switched off, playing each instrument with his band members. For example, he might be able to impress the judges by starting off on the guitar, then switches over to the keyboards, then going to the bass, then playing drums.

I doubt it.it wouldn't fit His Persona.if He did back then He would be Labeled a Jacksons or Sylvers Clone&Never would Escape that Tag.those are two Very Talented Families but the Tag would Hurt His Career at that stage IMHO.

Funny...The 19yr Prince had far 2 much real talent 4 a pre-fab TV show...He would have had the desire 2 play guitar, do his own song or play piano himself...and sing at the sametime...In saying only that, he sounds like the winner already...

i don't think he would've done it, but if he did, he would've blown the judges away, or pissed them off beyond belief!

They would have booted him for being too short.

They got rid of all the fat kids by saying they didn't have "the look" for be an American Idol so it stands to reason that he is too short to be an American Idol at least in the minds of those fools.

Not likely. I can't see Prince at ANY time in his existence on a TV talent show. His persona doesn't lend itself to something like that.

Plus, can you imagine Prince being interviewed by an Ed MacMahon type in light of his American Bandstand interview with Dick Clark?
This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

Prince wouldn't make it. The interview would be a disaster. Those kinds of shows are for cutesy pie singers, not serious musicians.

Shows like these are forums for PRODUCT, not art. Labels and PR companies are looking for any number of folks they can put up and make commission fees off. Real music is created while "woodsheddin'" and ya take to the stage at street level. IF you have any talent at all, nat'l TV exposure should be the very least of your concerns.
