IT SMELLS CHEEESE!!!!

It could almost be a Julio Iglesias cover...I hope Prince is not heading in the ´Vegas´ direction...

Haven't you heard his version of Soul Man?

-----
Your the only person who think Soul Man is "Vegas" Do you know anything about soul music????

Because it is not the RnB crap you hear on the radio today and I think that is what you are comparing it to.

You may not like this but, ballads sell and get radio airplay. "Call My Name" stated on the charts for over a year. No label is going to work with P if he does not met them half way with something commericial. Let's wait and see what the rest of the CD sounds like before we make a decision on the whole project.

Even P's dogs' are better than all the crap that is out right now.

No need to be offensive, I´m sure Gustavo knows as much about soul music as you do. Actually I cna relate to what SissyBeater and Gustavo are saying...Soul is cool , but Prince singing a cover of Soulman with that annoying keyboarder/hypeman Howard Chance was a travesty and beyond cheesy...especially for those who dig soul. The overblown horn section is so played out it´s not even funny...he did such a cool version of Controversy during the Musicology tour but it was flawed because of using, what, THREE horn players instead of some cool synths like he used to...same with tons of other songs.

And no matter how lame RnB is today, there are still folks like D´Angelo, Maxwell, Raphael Saadiq, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, etc, etc.

The sad thing for most fans isn´t that Prince is getting old or becoming boring, but that he still has it in him but he prefers to go all Vegas...

Ah you are from Spain, then. My brother lives in Xabia, I've spent a lot of time down there and right, he isn't Spanish at all. But there are Latinos who are part Black and resemble him in these photos.

- I agree...I mean, I don´t mind when Prince pays tribute to his masters, playing songs by James, Sly, etc. And I don´t expect him to be innovative forever. The Musicology tour showed that, despite some Vegas moments, he still can be very energetic, specially when he plays the guitar.

Even not being innovative, there are several possibilities in music. I recently saw a Wayne Shorter concert where he uses some very interesting melodies, arrangements, etc. Even guys like David Bowie are still doing interesting stuff, I heard.

I am just afraid Prince will dive into the Vegas direction and become extremely pop and sugary (like Elton John recently). I hope he never loses his ´freak´ side.

it IS better than the musicology cover, by a long shot. i'd love it if they'd spent more time on the lettering - a nice custom art nouveau logo would be nice with that gold border and black background...or something really ornate with a morroccan look to it. i hate that sam/npg won't have fun with fonts and logos on prince's new stuff. i really miss that from his old album art.

Anyone heard any "official" news on a track listing yet?

I mean it is only like 3 to 4 days away now, you'd think we could find out something.

yeah....with as many creative fans as prince has, you'd think they could find someone who could really have a lot of fun designing one of his albums.

DrD

Did anyone hear these few seconds from the VH1 ad ?

The sing sounds awfully cheesy!

Let's wait for the album but I am getting very worried. I was (well, I am still, but much less so...) hoping for a great, (somewhat) innovative album after such a long break and pretty good rumours...

Now what u guys haven't seen yet is the banner 4 the video premiere. And that's only cuz I just finished making it lol

Seems like it already happened to me as far back as Emancipation.

Doesn't really bother me though. I was just answering Gustavo's question.
