June 20 in Prince history - The War recorded

June 20, 1998 - The War was recorded live at the Paisley Park concert announced as The One (other tracks included The One, U're Still The One, and One Of Us).

The War was later edited down from 45 minutes to 26 minutes for release in July by download and free cassette.

Anyone still waiting for their copy of The War?

That was one crazy-ass jam / song / thing. Chocolate microchip in your neck? Saturday morning cartoons? All sounds okay to me Prince, what's your problem!?

The way I see it, the Saturday morning cartoons reference was for two reasons:

1. The show was a Friday night. He was letting people know that The War would be a long jam and go until Saturday morning.

2. He was letting people know this song would be challenging. If people wanted to be entertained rather than challenged, they should go home and watch their Saturday morning cartoons.

The microchip in you neck comment was illuminated further by the NPGMC a few months ago with a link from the news section. 'Chocolate' microchip I'm not sure about...

And hey, I'm not claiming to understand the whole jam, but it gave me renewed faith in Prince soon after NPS, so it has fond memories.

As someone who attended this jam I must say that I thank God that Prince edited it down to 26 minutes for the release. The other 20 minutes was BORING to say the least. I just remember looking around thinking "Good God what is this man Smoking". 20 minutes of the loop over and over again with Prince playing guitar backstage...man... eek

I like the 26 minute version though.

I still haven't opened the cd of this I bought at Paisley. I understand that the cd is quite rare.

Yes it was so very exciting to stare at an empty stage for 20 minutes, wasn't it?

Speaking of this show, does anyone have this show recorded? I've never seen it circulating (or heard of it circulating), and I'd love to hear the full 45-minute version.

Please orgnote me if you know where to get the full show.
Thanks.
