This is a historical moment. We both agree on something. lol

Ask vainandy how much he appreciated "AWTWIAD" or "Parade".

I know, right? Don't get me wrong, I dig Wendy and Lisa, but to suggest Prince would be less than without them is a bit much. I simply used your example to point out theat not everyone likes Prince better with Wendy and Lisa. I have long since thought that they got most o
f their fanlove because they were prominent in the movie "purple rain."

I know that I'm going to be hated by all the over-obsessed fans out there, but I think Prince needs to retire. He needs to start a family and relax... he's lost his edge. Emancipation was his last mildly decent album and that was done nearly 10 years ago! Everything else has been missing something...

His performances are incredible to this day, but I think he should stop making new stuff because it has a dryness to it that I don't like.

If he's going to continue a career, he needs to release the stuff from The Vault and a comprehensive music video collection.

Anyway, I'm NOT at all excited about 3121 or the new single. It sounds so cheesy! If this was anybody but Prince performing this song, would you really care to hear more of his music? And to all the Princians who think this man's s--- is pure gold, I already know what you're going to say, so don't say it.

No offense but please shut up. Why should any artists retire? Many famed artisst continue to make music. Plus why are you on a website dedicated to him if you have had those sentiments? If he is old hat to you and not at all reelvant to you, why are you even taking the time to create a screen name on a Prince related website? And dont give me the 'ol rigamarole about "I appreciate his past thats why"-"I'm here for the people socialize aspect" crap.

This joint gets weirder with every new irrelevant name.

I think some fans shoud retire.

I never thought Prince should retire...only in 97-2000 I suggested here that he should take some vacations, because his music was sounding plastic and uninspired...

Then, Prince got a brand new drummer, a kick ass band, and he seemed to be very musical again, focusing more on musicianship, arrangements and guitar playing. I was very excited with TRC album and ONA tour.

But now, I must confess I am almost having this same 98 feeling now, if Prince starts doing mega-corny latin pop...

I REALLY HOPE I AM WRONG....LET´S WAIT AND SEEEEE

Co-Sign. I am so tired of people coming to this board to bitch about how P does not make music like he use to. The man is almost 50 years old. Maybe he has run out of new ideas but, the stuff he is doing now is still better than what is being offered by younger artist and most of his peers are still on the Budwiser SuperFest circuit. This guy just pulled down 100 million on his last tour. Who walks away from that kind of money.

If the Rolling Stone don't have to go away why does Prince.

Should Prince retire?

Hell no. disbelief

Okay so if my favorite era of his were from 1978-84, but still he made a some great songs especially from 1987-present.

I am very excited about his new album will be coming out next spring and but I am much more excited of seeing his upcoming single on VH1 this coming Tuesday.

It seems that many people think Prince has lost his relevance in today's music. That's not the case! Many of my younger friends and colleagues at work (who are around their 20s) have discovered Prince only in recent years, through albums like Rainbow Children, One Nite Alone... Live and Musicology.
I could never stop following Prince's tracks. There's always the curiosity for what he'll do next smile
Yes, i think his 80s output is his best - yet there's still enough wonderful music to enjoy. Prince has the right to retire, but i don't want him to!

Thank you for that Rolling Stones example! They haven't been relevant in over 25 years. Wait, last relevancy was 1981's Tattoo You at the most. Before that one last jab at relevancy with 1978's Some Girls. However, they keep putting out albums that their fans rarely buy yet tour every 3 years to ultimate crowds. Prince is allowed the same lee-way. Nobody is expecting to see him burn up the chart, change fate, nor make another movie or things in that nature. For some to say "retire loser" is just bait anyways and if not: you just don't get it (please buy a clue).

The one thing for me is that I would love to see Prince tour over in Europe again.

Maybe come to Glastonbury.

I think that as time goes on people of this generation will catch on to what a massive influence Prince has been on the music industry.

People will step back and and be in awe.

Especially if you compare him to the big artist that we have now such as acts like Robbie Williams, The Darkness.

They are good but I really think that Prince has something extra special.

He's written and produced so many hits and has great albums and on stage his concerts are just electric.

Hardly anyone (well I can't think of anybody) holds a candle to him.

He can go from producing great pop music like "Kiss" to harder edge stuff like "Shockadelica" and "Erotic City" to something more personal like "Nothing Compare 2 U"?

I can't think of ANYONE else who can do this. And so much...and so well....!
Shut up already, damn.

Wa???!!! Prince is bigger than both of those. Robbie is a commercially successful pop act, yes, but a break-away from a boy-band, he's from the Madonna school of thought on fame and stardom, i.e. they (image/glamour) come first before the music, they're not musicians.

As for The Darkness, a couple of fun songs and all, but you can see dodgy tribute bands like this play in any Working Men's Club up and down the small towns and cities of the UK any night of the week - they wear their influences WAY too much on their sleeves, they either have to prove they're not a one-trick pony, or be satisfied with being a one-hit wonder and fashion-curio throwback. That 2nd album is just MORE of EXACTLY the SAME.

Prince isn't in competition with these muppets - I don't think Prince needs to competete for the youth market with these younger guys, he's been there and done it all and got the Academy Award! He's becoming an elderly stateman of pop, I think he's actually growing quiet well into it. It seems like he's passed that 'Bowie in the 80s' phase (that was the 90s for Prince), and he seems to be emerging out the otherside quite well I think, still some way to go.

My biggest fear for Prince's career is if he becomes like James Brown, just getting wheeled out to sing 'I Feel Good' every so often. The pimp suits of the Musicology era really brought that home, I could see him dressing like that, with a grey comb-over, backed by three large, mid-40s Black female singers in velvet evening-gowns, elbow length gloves and sporting bee-hives, all singing "Huh! I juuus' won't yo' xTRA tIIIIIME..... AND YO KEEEEES! *mwha* - As he wipes the sweat of his brow with a handkerchief and spins around.

That the thing that pisses me off. It is okay for the Rolling Stone but, it is not okay for Prince. WTF. Some of these threads are baiting but, some of these folks really are clueless. When you see the Vegas comments you know some people are living on a different world. They actually expect P to wear the frilly shirts from 20 years ago instead putting on a suit like a almost 50 something year old man should be doing.

He is really making some good decisions and I think the whole turn around in his carreer has been great.

Yeah I didn't mean Prince was in competition with these guys.

I agree about Robbie and the Darkness.

I also think that Prince still loves performing that's all I meant.

And even though he's nearly 50 he would still knock the socks off these guys.

I personally still think he's got miles left in him. He's just at a different stage in his life.

I don't think he really sees music as "work" anyway. So he might think he hasn't got anything to retire from.
