Lord knows I agree that Prince sure as hell ain't been the same bad ass hard jamming MF since "Purple Rain" but I never thought he should retire. 1985-1990 was full of disappointments because Prince had lost his mind and gone to La La Land but when the 1990s arrived and the rest of the music world went to "c"rap, Prince was the only one continuing to lay down the funk. It wasn't the stronger funk I loved him for in the early 1980s but it was still funk.

Prince needs to continue putting out music (with none of the current musical styles) so the adults can have something to listen to and let the little thugged out Romper Roomers have current radio because it's totally gone to the dogs anyway and it's not going to change anytime soon.

However, I would prefer some old school Prince from the vault over some newly recorded material any day, because, you're right, Prince ain't been the same since "Purple Rain.

That's true. If he wants to be all versitile, he's going to have to expect criticism because the whole world is not going to be into all these different directions he keeps going in.

You don't have to worry about Prince driving his fans off in droves like he has in the past. Everyone else has basically left years ago and we are the ones that are still here. We've been fans so long that we already know he will go off in some totally "far out" opposite direction with a new album at the drop of a hat and have learned to either like it or tolerate it.

We bitch about it and then we buy the next album. Hell, we must all be a bunch of S & M freaks because we keep taking the punishment. I swear, sometimes his little ass can certainly drive you to the edge of dropping him though.

1st of all, I don't know what "CRAGE" means.

2ndly, where in my post did I say Wendy and Lisa would sound like 1986?

Lastly, Wendy and Lisa are overrated. Ask vainandy how much he appreciated "AWTWIAD" or "Parade". If they were so great how come mainly Prince fans are the people who are into them> In the "Purple Rain" DVD they display/explain how much they added to Prince's mix and, I'd say they are not nearly as important as Fink.

Prince's doesn't need to RETIRE!
He is a musical genius and I'm happy he's still around making good music.
Some songs or records are better than others released previously...but he still is capable of putting out a few jams on each release.

I'm 27 and have been a fan since purple rain.
I have all his records and I crave new prince music (still)...so its a good thing, that he's still relevant in the music industry today.

People are still interested. We still have Prince parties at night clubs here in detroit.

The One, Man of War, Greatest Romance, Call My Name, You make my sunshine, Somebody's Somebody, The Most Beautiful Girl, Pink Cashmere, Come On, Rainbow Children...and the list goes on and one!

I take a brief sabbatical from prince.org but some things never change. As the excitement level rises over the release of new Prince music, some have to take the negative rout before even hearing the music.
As long as Prince doesn't reach the crash and burn level of MJ, he should never retire. Or at least not for the reasons shesjustababy82 gave.
