tape. The "Purple Rain" solo is outstanding. The solo before "little Red Corvette" is great, as well. His playing on The Rainbow Children
was something else.

Technically, I don't think he's as good as people like Steve Vai, John McLaughlin or John Scofield, but on a raw emotional level, there is no one better IMO. Check out the solo on the "Question Of U/The One/Fallin" download at NPGMC. Breathtaking

I would give him a 10 rating, the dude plays insane, tight funk rhythm. Badass leads, really raw kind of like Santana. That is the greatest thing about his playing, it is not perfect like Vai or Satriani, but it has so much more feeling and creativity than those cats who obviously sit around and play scales all day.

The thing that makes it more impressive is, he does more than just play, he is a singer/vocalist. To be that good, and do all the other things he does, when most of the other people mentioned are really just guitar players, that is impressive.

Not Hendrix. But close to Harrison, Taylor, Page or Richards.

near the top, ahead of most of the guys that always get mentioned. His playing is distinctive and has improved. the hall of fame performance was a jaw dropper, more moving than any solo i've ever seen. He's one of the best, the guys who are better technically lack the artistry so it depends on what you like.

First, let me say that Prince is my fave guitar player now (together with Santana), because I love the way he puts so much feeling on his solos, and his versatility, vibrato, etc.

But the difference between Prince and other greats like Van Halen, Page, etc, is because these guys were innovators on the instrument and influenced many more than Prince on the guitar. But I still prefer Prince´s style.
