Prince and the TIME? Do y'all ever wonder if Prince wished he had made the Time his backing band instead of the Revolutuin. We already know that Prince worked with the Time, (he was the Time) but do you think working with Jesse, Jam & Lewis, Monte and Jellybean would of benifited to him more.
Morris would still be a lead singer, but of the Revolution. PRINCE: Always and Forever

Morris would still be a lead singer, but of the Revolution. While the Time is a superior band (if you are referring to the Revolution with Wendy on guitar), I think Prince would have gone with the Revolution. Image and marketing had alot to do with it. Prince would have had some more difficulty crossing over with a band full of black dudes. Putting white girls on guita up front helped with the then MTV friendly image that was needed to got programmed. Ask Rick James (if you can wake him from his dirt nap) - he was snuffed even though Superfreak crossed him over like a motherfucker. Stone City Band was a gang of brothers and didnt look right next to Duran Duran on heavy rotation on MTV or pop radio. In the early 80s, it wasnt about sflat out being able to play. It was about how cool - and "accessible" - you looked playing a synth during a close up. | |

Nah. Sensibilty is the word here. With the members in The Time, especially Jessie, P would have had a stroke if they had to play in the same band together. Dez fit P perfectly, but Dez wouldn't have fit in The Time. The only member that would have fit in P's lineup would have been Jimmy Jam. P wanted a Sly and the Family Stone vibe with his lineup, so that's what he had. All of P's members had an edge to them, visually. They had two. The Time were, visually, waaay to slick to play in P's band. That was always the glaring difference between the two. Both times I saw the o.g. lineup of The Time open for P, this always stood out. That's what made it such a good show. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."
