Seriously though--in my experience, a lot of people (non P. fans) don't even realize Prince wrote Nothing Compares 2U. When I tell them, they actually seem dissapointed. I remember when her version came out-I didn't realize it was a Prince song, nor did I understand the reason she tore up the picture of the Pope. (I was about 13 and didn't really care about worldly issues.  )
I can emphasize with her frustration if she thinks people only know her b/c of Prince, but there are much more professional ways to make that point without seeming like an angry bitch... The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp. | |

It possibly his most famous song yet it's not considered his, I came remember the first time I heard the song and I loved it. Then I discovered Prince wrote it and I truly wasn't surprised. He was at the height of his career at that point and the song seemed to be everywhere. Then he started to play it at concerts and the only copy I've got is on the Hits and B sides CD. That version sounds really jazzed up and compared to the original sparsed version. Plus he changes the lyrics slightly . It's a very interesting debate. Shut up already, damn. | |
