Poor Sinead O'Connor. Her legacy will always be these three things:

1. Shaved Head
2. Tearing up the Pope
3. Her fame all stems from a Prince song that is just a footnote on his epic ass

I do feel a little sorry for her that she has tried so hard to be different from the mainstream, but half the people that go to her concerts are probably there just for her to sing Nothing Compares 2 U, and she would probably like to never sing that song again.

Kind of like how the Gold Experience and One Nite Alone tours were all about new material ("Prince is dead" followed by "If you came to get your Purple Rain on, you best hit the door"), which both eventually morphed into more hit-heavy shows, featuring, amongst other songs, Purple Rain...

Prince doesn't seem to mind so much - after all, he wrote these songs - but for Sinead it's got to be hard that people want to hear a song she didn't even write, especially when she has well-documented disagreements with Prince himself.

i thought she was a priest or something....she cussin' like a sailor....lol.

One of my favorite radio programs is a reggae show called Rockers that comes on a college radio station here in Boston every weeknight. They play true reggae, from old roots to new dancehall, but mostly focusing on contemporary "conscious" reggae. Anyway, for some reason they played Sinead's "Throw Down Your Arms and Come" which was produced by reggae legends Sly and Robbie. It was hot fucking garbage. I could almost buy that she had become a Rasta when I first heard about it. There are a lot of things about the Rasta way of life that are universally wonderful, and hey, if it works for her then more power and all that shit.

But the song is kind of crap, and what really irritated me was the fact that she puts on a Jamaican "accent," pronouncing the words and singing the way she thinks a Rasta would. It was a serious turnoff.

Boy some Bad shit must have really gone down. I like her music and all,but I Don't wanna hear her Dissing Prince or The Pope. I think she should leave all the Nastiness at the Door. It should be Only about Music..

Say what you will but she's one of the most talented and uncompromising artists of our time. She's released several quality works over the past several years including one of my all time favorites Faith and Courage.

I went to the show at First Avenue Monday night and it was excellent! Sly & Robbie are legends and played for 45 minutes with their band before Sinead came out and played for two hours (with them backing her up). Her voice was excellent, she smiled a lot. She and the band were definitly having a good time. Yes it was all reggae and no old stuff but I was expecting that so I had no disappointments. Great show!! I think the remark she made in Chicago was a bit unfortunate and harsh though. I bet she is just frustrated when she does not want to do the old stuff and people keep screaming for it.

Prince's mocked press conferences about changing his name and then changing it back. Im not saying Prince isnt a musical genius, but I am saying this without all of these antics from Day 1 people would be talking about him less. And he knows it.


Im sorry but im going to say what people already know. Prince knows his music just can't stand on it's own. It never could it needs a spectacle to come with it. Because without that he would be written in a cult publication and mentioned how this guy has potential.

Every picture is calculated airbrushed screaming to say "Please Like me. Im still here. Like me!" And you know what's sad? It's never enough for Prince
Even with all his pioneering musical/artistic accomplishments he still has to reach for validation from his fans in such sad pandering state. This probably stems from what alot brilliant artists suffer from. The praises and cheers are too far fleeting for an artist like this. I am convinced of this.

Then when someone makes a fair criticism someone always has to defend him purely on emotion and love for his music. Let me tell you something you already know. Everyone has uttered something in public or in private that they feel is harsh and cruel. If you think for one second that Prince is void of that criticism then you are sadly mistaken. There is no exception to the rule. Everybody is an asshole. And what's funny is people make these "shaking head emoticons" like Prince is some saint to having class and manners.

Want to know the real truth? It's not hard to see that Prince is trapped and addicted to fame. Not even the success of Musicology4ever is good enough of fame. This 3121 stunt is just another example of this.
Let me ask you something, do you think radio is going to spin 3121? Prince is looking for acceptance in every performance he does still. He always wants to know "Am I still good" And what Prince doesn't realize it's all a perception and perspective and subjective opinion. "Good" Is smoke n mirrors.

Even his calendars/posters and merchandise, scream "I am here Do you still like me?"

Prince is a facade to amuse/entertain his viewers/fans/ into something he really isn't as a person. The build up of everything he does is delusional at best.
The taunting/snark/snide remarks of every single artist in music/movies who even has a slight remark Prince.org goes off on a tangent. Everyone is human. Prince isn't St.Peter or Mother Theresa.

he's got quite the ego, and maybe deserves to get away with it
but i believe it blinds him
nonetheless, i still dig his music more or less
and yeah, he'll always have potential to do great things
but what's his motivation?
if he can get away with less, will he try
if he feels he has nothing left to prove, will he even tap into it anymore
anyway, i'll still be around
waiting for bigger and better things to come

I won´t go in the "what did Sinead do in the last 15 years" because I really don´t know nothing about her career. Maybe she even did good things.

I don´t think it´s about the music. I believe she had something PERSONAL against him because of a discussion, or something...I just think it´s ungrateful...because if it wasn´t for ´Nothing Compares 2 U´, she wouldn´t be internationally known (this song plays even these days in Brasil radio, and she did a nice version). If she simply preferred Peter Tosh over Prince, she could have said "No, Prince is cool but my fave writer is Peter Tosh" and smiled. It wouldnt be so bitter. It means its personal.

A lot of musicians/rock stars/artists are guilty of pulling star moves, engaging in crazy antics, being self centered, egocentric, bizaare, down right weird etc.

Prince especially has done all the above, but I have no problem with it.

I have no problem with Mick Jagger being in bed with Bowie.
I have no problem with James Brown's high speed chases.
I have no problem with MJ pretending he is a 10 year old boy.
I have no problem with Elvis shooting his TV,poppin' pills, etc.
I have no problem with Bono being a self righteous ambassador.
I have no problem with John Lennon staying in bed with Yoko to give peace a chance.
I have no problem with Madonna doing a faux accent and posing in a book nude.

I have no problem with Prince being elusive, painting slave on his face, changing his name to a symbol, speaking crytic things, or not giving his fans what they want.

Why? Because these people have a wealth of talent and stacks of albums/videos that back it up and says they are legit. They are an artist. They are the real deal.

At best, Sinead O'Connor is maybe a fraction away from being a one hit wonder. She can pout and pose 'til close but it doesn't make her any more respected or more of an artist. It doesn't make her a "has been", it just makes her a "never really was."
