Well, it seems it's a group called Coco Electrik. Not any of the high profile acts that have been banded about. Judge for yourselves, found samples of it at the links below. Still no news on a release date though.

Sex Shooter is one of Prince's most perfect pop songs. Even Apple's bad singing can't ruin it -- it doesn't even matter, the music's some kind of musical teflon. It bounces and swirls high and low at all the right places. And best of all, its sexiness is wonderfully overt yet it stops short of being completely explicit, like lingerie. | |

I can't really even imagine this song without Apollonia's wailing. This song IS Apollonia to me. I know people kinda seem excited over this cover. But for some reason covers really bother me. I don't know. I just wish people would write their own songs. It kinda feels like stealing to me. In a year, I don't wanna hear little fifteen year old girls singing it being completley oblivious to who Apollonia was and what Purple Rain ment to the girls who grew up putting on their mother's lingere singing in front of the mirror with this song blasting pretending to be Apollonia. Get your own thing!!!  | |

Get your own thing!!! I agree. However a well done cover has the power of airing the song to a new generation and audience who then go back and explore where it came from. I'm sure Sinead O Connor's cover earned Prince some new fans. However I bet that awful version of Nasty Girl did the opposite. I like Coco Electrik's version - sounds like the Gorillaz. | |
