Yeah, why not? You could do worse and go and buy Mariah Carey or something... NPS aint the greatest but Exodus is pretty darn good. Both are NPG releases as opposed to Prince. NPS is blatently Prince whereas Exodus, although obviously Prince, has him hidden somewhat from view (at least attempted to anyway)...

The common dissing of NPS here on the org has to be seen as relative to previous releases. But on its own it aint as bad as you would think going by the general sentiment around here.

Exodus is definitely worth getting, there's some epic tracks on it, e.g Hallucination Rain, Exodus has Begun, that really give a great 'live' feel of the whole Gold era NPG. There's also some good dance stuff like Return of the Bump Squad, plus other great tracks like Count the Days.

The segues are also the only ones that are ever worth listening to across any Prince/NPG album - mashed potato story is killa!!!

As far as NPS, well all I'll say is that Wasted Kisses is one of P's best songs of the last 10 yrs, after that make up your own mind!!!

Newpower Soul includes some really good songs:

The One, Come On and Wasted Kisses (hidden track) cool

Exodus is an excellent album with great jams like:

Get Wild, The Return Of The Bump Squad, The Good Life and The Exodus Has Begun! cool

If You are a Prince fan then you should buy these CDs even if you don't like the albums in their entirety! smile

You're bound to find a few songs on each that you'll really like. I prefer Exodus (and I'd hazard a guess that most people would) but they are both worth having.
Lemmy, Bowie, Prince, Leonard. RIP.

These albums are worth hearing. However, there ain't nothing wrong with Mariah. The Emancipation of Mimi is a hot album.

I thought the "Exodus" album was awful. Absolutely awful.

But "New Power Soul" was surprisingly good. It's mostly Prince on every track, and the songs are all funky in one way or another.

New Power Soul--makes your 'head bob'
Mad Sex--one of his most underrated, funky, strange trax
Until ure in my arms---one of his lovliest ballads ever
If u love somebody--a nice catchy little tune, if undercooked
Come on--funky!
The one! --great track!

It's a much better album than musicology in my opinion.

Better than Musicology? Definately, by a long distance.

Exodus is aweful? Now now... Theres no need for that kinda language! biggrin

It just goes to show what an unpleasable fan base we are... One mans hate is another mans love...

Mariah is not that bad. I only have her debut album and is not great but is interesting and no doubt about her voice. You could do worse buying Cristina Aguilera or something...

I like bothe records.

Exodus is a classic Clinton-inspired funk trip, and I think a lot of fans, like me, who we really into Prince at the time remember it as quite exciting - Gold/Come/Exodus all the prince and SLAVE craziness - Good times! biggrin

How anyone cannot love Hallucination Rain or The Exodus Has Begun, or laugh their ass off at Mashed Potato Girl!

NPS, it's always come under a lot of flack, and I think some of it is justified, Prince wasn't pushing himself at all, in any direction on this record, but if you enjoy it just as a fluffy party record, and it IS an NPG album, people tend to forget that.

I prefer NPS to Emancipation, Rave or Musicology, all of which have a commonality in their production values.

what a silly question. prince never made an album that is totally
worthless and should not be bought at all.

there are some that are less cool than others, but they all have
their shining moments and all are at least entertaining.

i've bought many albums in my time and bought many shit ones that
i never listened to again, but never a Prince album.

if you like his music, any of it, you will find some nice things
in either one of those discs. altho NPS is more of a Prince solo
record and Exodus is a real group effort with others mainly on
vocals. however, for what it lacks in Prince vocals it certainly
makes up with in wicked songs and playing!

buy m, both of m

I always say "YES" cause even the worst Prince album is better than 95% of all that's out there....

Exodus is awesome. LOVE it. Funky, fun, laid back, and funny. Return of the Bump Squad gets my booty movin every time. SO fun.

New Power Soul is ok. There are definitely decent tracks but there is some filler. As a whole not as good as Exodus imo, but still worth checking out.
