TRC/I Want You I noticed today that these two albums have very similar styled artwork. was it the same artist who did them? or has anything ever been mentioned regarding TRC taking influence from I Want You in respect to cover design?

YES, Marvin Gayes 'I want You'. Just because marvins album came out decades before doesnt mean that P couldnt take inspiration from the artwork. Nor does it mean that the same artist didnt create both album covers.

As TheReal Finesse stated above, c´babibayoc, the artist who did the album cover and booklet artwork, probably wasn´t even born when I Want You came out, but you´re right, the style does remind me of the artwork on Marvin Gaye´s masterpiece.
The same artist who did the artwork for I Want You also did a few other album covers, including a Curtis Mayfield album cover with a radio DJ on it ( was it the Back By Popular Demand album ?? Or something like that...I don´t have that album anymore..) CampLo ( HipHop group ) also had an album cover inspired by I Want You. Talking about Prince´s album covers.you should definitely check out the alternative album cover for Around The World In A Day...it´s not necessarily "better" than the released version, but fascinating nonetheless... I´m talking about the OTHER album cover for ATWIAD, not the one by Doug Henders but that other , almost Salvador Dali-like album cover done by ....I don´t remember.
Prince opted for the Henders version that we all know. The other album cover had almost the same themes, but looked more realistic. I don´t have it on my hard disc, and the search engine doesn´t work, but I know some orgers have it somewhere ( I recall Neversin posting it a long time ago). Indeed... which cover... could u post it please? start a new topic for it if you want someone to post it. it's been posted on the forums several times but i keep forgetting to save it to disc. it's not stellar, just different. it's kinda like the original cover done in a photographic way instead of a drawing. it looked kinda Paisley Park video meets the cover of the album mixed with Raspberry Beret overtones. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Who did this "alternate" cover? Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

Firstly, on topic, the cover of 'I Want You' is 'The Sugar Shack' by Ernie Barnes.
Barnes work can be viewed (and purchased) at his website: http://www.erniebarnes.com/ The cover for 'The Rainbow Children' is 'Reine Keis Quintet' by C'Babi Bayoc. His work can be viewed at his website http://www.bayocstudio.com/ You can find other useful links here: http://www.dawnation.com/menu2/trc.html (It's difficult not to conclude that the work has .been influenced by the 'neo-Mannerist' style pioneered by Barnes and others.) . [Edited 11/23/05 9:30am] Nana too, indeed. The people who always help out or do a lot of hard work on this site are usually the ones thanked last. which is a shame. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps
