If 3121 is the new album title?........ Will you be pleased or disappointed?
I think it's a pretty catchy album title (if he's going for the pop market thing again like Musicology). BUT it's been around for so long now, I feel it's lost any feeling it could've had. I'm imagining a mid-tempo funk-yawn like Musicology and SST, I can't help but feel disappointment if it's the case.

I will be dissapointed. I would love to hear a radical departure for him from stuff he's been hinting to us. If SST and New Orleans are any indication of the next album, I'll just leave it at the fact that I appreciate Prince for the mountains of other material that he's given me over the years.

i think if he can riff on the concept of it (whatever it is - i'm sold on the theory that it's the address of his LA party pad), it could be a pretty cool title. he just has to COMMIT to the concept like he did with SOTT, lovesexy and some of his other album/tour concepts.
in all due respect of an album and tour i was not at all disappointed in, "musicology" was kind of a poorly carried-out idea. i didn't like the title from the get-go, and whatever pale hopes i had that he'd be paying tribute to what he considered to be "essential" or "schoolworthy" music was turned to dust by the album and tour...it was fine for what it was, but the concept of "school's in session" fell flat. so he ranted about "real music" and trotted out a few old skool soul jams. whoop-de-doo. i feel like the whole idea fell short and got lost in the whole comeback media blitz, which, well, was fine by me really, but it just speaks to the idea of what a weak idea it is for prince to pay homage when prince's favorite subject is prince.

I can really say I'd be either pleased or dissapointed until I've actually heard the song if it even exists at all.Let me put it this way, Graffiti Bridge sure sounded like a cool title. That is, until I heard the track itself

i'd love to see 3121 be kind of a "what's happening at prince's pad?" kind of concept, where he's just chilling at home, and hey - look - it's stevie wonder! it's joni mitchell, dropping in to sing on a new song! that would be a cool concept, and i think it would make for an interesting tour, especially if that free-for-all energy that we saw on the NAACP awards is any indication of where his head's at (which i hope and don't hope is the case, depending on who's joining him on stage).

Oddly enough, I once envisioned him touring with that album with a stage that resembled his crib.

You've just described a really bad Jackson family Thanksgiving special or something. well, at worst, i agree. at best, it could rival the best moments of his best tours and his most legendary aftershows. i think if he's going this route, we're going to have to deal with the indulgent crapola in order to get to the serious ass-kicking amazing stuff. in other words, to get to the killer sheila e. drum solo, we're gonna have to sit through whoever-the-hell warbling their way through an old smooth soul ballad for fifteen minutes.

I'll tell you what I expect. If 3121 is the title, then I would expect there to be some kind of party vibe on it, considering all the parties he had at his place with that being the number of his residence and all. I would be disappointed if there isn't at least one hot dance track on there. It's been WAY too long since he made a dance song or album for the clubs and it would make perfect sense to have some kind of dance theme throughout the whole CD. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

[Edited 11/22/05 16:29pm] Ah, but you still some hope for the new album. TRC wasn't that too long ago that you he might turnout something you might like. The last Prince album that I truly enjoyed was GB (album only, not the movie). That was back in'90. While I'll keep an ear out for the any new material, I'm past the point of actually expecting to be wow'ed. Tho, he's still ( & probably forever be ) my fave all-time artist, so any kind of success he might get for the new album ( whether it be commercial or critical ) would be cool to see, even if I don't like it.

I agree that mid-tempo, uninspired funk will definitely suck. I don't know, Musicology just sounds so lifeless. It's the definition of bland.
I'll be fine with the "3121" title though. Nothing wrong with it. Oh, and the last P album I enjoyed was One Nite Alone: Solo Piano & Voice. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

oop, i may as well answer the question: it doesn't bother me. it's just a buncha numbers, like 1999...'cept most likely whatever's coming up won't kick nearly as much ass as 1999 did/does, yeah yeah i know.

As far as I know, 3121 hasn't been referred to by Prince's camp since those parties and the NAACP performance, what was that, 9 months or so ago? If he now brought out an album with that title, you would have to assume he has been sitting on it for that length of time, for what reason? I am more inclined to believe it was purely his name for those parties at his LA pad (though I don't think it has ever been confirmed that 3121 is the number of his house!) and the new album, whenever it drops, will be titled differently.
I would prophesize that the album will contain mostly funk songs with a hint of rock, a splattering of jazz, and a few syrupy ballads. Because that pretty much describes every Prince album! As for the notion that 3121 really means the 'release date' of 13th of December, I would be very surprised if it turned out he had held back an album hinted at 9 months ago JUST so it could be released on a date that matches the number. We'll just have to see...

Well, musicology sucked the big one. I would never have imagined such blandness could ever come out of the man, especially when it is backed up by all his rhetoric about schools now in session, real music blah blah... Utter nonsense. to me it smacked of an artist who had no more inspiration left.
Hopefully the long break has done some revitalising and, whereas the last album seemed to be targetting a simple audience with simple ideas, this new album will be for us - A new sound for a change... I dont expect it to though. Blandness has been a big part of Prince's music for some years now. He needs a new, young and diverse band again with less craftsmanship and more energetic oomph! And less fucking horns...

Hey - look - it's Larry Graham! Hey - look - it's Doug E Fresh! ~ cue the sound of doors slamming across the Prince community ~ I like that idea a lot, actually; except when you read your response to Imago, you realise it could have disastrous consequences.
