QUESTION: How great are THE CHOCOLATE INVASION and THE SLAUGHTERHOUSE albums off npgmusicclub???

Just curious about the overall reviews of these 2 albums which I may download off npgmusicclub.com... I liked the 2 samples played...but how does the rest of the album fare? What type of music? Weren't these both released after THE RAINBOW CHILDREN? Any info is greatly appreciated smile

Odds are I'll probably purchase them since I'm looking for new refreshing sounds the world has to offer, and that road usually leads to Prince.

Chocolate Invasion is pretty good.
The Dance is a cool ballad
Judas Smile, Supercute, and Vavoom have good energy.
When I Lay My Hands On U and U Make My Sunshine are pretty good epic type songs.
Overall, I like it better than Musicology.

Slaughterhouse is a bunch of fillers, but Im glad to have it.
(Insert something clever here)

The sounds on these projects are not refreshing. There are maybe three or four decent songs, nothing special, and the rest sound slapped together with mild attempts to be current. Silicon is probably the closest to a credible, effective groove. When Will We B Paid and My Medaillon should have been included instead of some of this stuff.

The Chocolate Invasion is what made NPGMC so exciting during the first few years. A lot of good stuff on there. Well, fun stuff anyway. dancing jig

From an old school Prince fan...I was pleasantly suprised by the Chocolate Invasion and most of Slaughterhouse. Supercute is one of his best "should've been a hit" song in years. The Dance, U Make My Sunshine, Silicon, Radical Man, and SM Groove are all quality Prince cuts.

Whoever said Slaughterhouse ahs some filler wasn't kidding...but its got enough good stuff to pay the $$ to download.

Both albums are compilations of material that was made available to members of the NPGMC in it's first year of business, so all the material (except The Dance) was already available before TRC - the material dates largely from 1999/2000, and includes material intended for several projects - namely the shelved album, High, and the fourth NPG album project.

The music is largely a logical extension of some of the material you find from around that time period - namely Rave Un2/In2 and NPS.

I think both albums have their merits and are worth downloading for the price.

I can never understand why most people big-up 'TCI' and hate on 'Slaugherhouse' since they are both comprised of tracks from more or less the same time and don't have particularly different sounds. Just some people regard 'TCI' as having stronger songs - personally, I prefer the slightly darker funk of Slaughterhouse.

I know a lot of fans don't even regard these as 'albums' instead just 'compilations' and somehow that lessens them in some people's eyes.

All of the songs sound like uninspired b-sides.

There ARE a few good tracks, but nothing that would blow you away.
Slaughterhouse itself is a song that goes on and on and seems to drag despite having a good hook.

Think of them as being variations of New Power Soul, Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic, and have SOME elements of Musicology. Boring.

Thanx for the opinions... I did buy them both and quite surprised, I'll take THE CHOCOLATE INVASION over Musicology any day and THE SLAUGHTERHOUSE was decent...It was better than most of the unreleased stuff off CRYSTAL BALL. I wasn't looking for the newest pop diddy but more of what Prince does best, creative unique songs with a kaleidoscope of colorings. Hypnoparadise I couldn't stand...but because there are so many contrasts between songs I always find stuff I like, no matter what album, that's what's so great about Prince.
