It was BREATHTAKING BUT TOO LONG IN THE WAIT..... SHOULDA BEEN PUSHED to Number One STATUS. GOLD is PLATINUM....PURE PLATINUM....IT'S HOT!!!
exactly. it should have been freed a lot more early it should have went like: *bam* The Most Beautiful Girl In The World *bam* Dolphin *bam* The Gold Experience *bam* Days of Wild/319 *bam* Gold that would have solidified his place as one of music's leading talents instead the entire package got lost in the muddle and lost all of it's momentum. which is sad since it's such a kick ass beautiful project to begin with. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

What's going on here?? We all seem 2 agree on this thread Really,it was the last real Prince album-like we knew him. And I remember being so dissapointed when Emancipation came out. We were all expecting SO much from this triple album. I do like a lot from Emancipation, later on,but a the time I wished he just made a great single album of it. Love4oneanother

One of only about 5 albums that I would call powerful.
I think Eye Hate U might be his greatest track ever. It had his sensual falsetto voice, driving sex emotions, and especially the VIOLENT SEX GUITAR SOLO. Endorphine, Dolphin, Now, 319.....Damn, I love this album. I miss this kind of emotion in his music. (Insert something clever here)

i have to agree about I hate U, it's so unexpectedly entertaining for such slickly produced melodrama, it just goes so over the top it becomes intense.

The song Dolphin really touched my life when I was a teenager. I wish it could have been a single, so that my friends (who made fun of me for liking Prince at the time) would see what a thoughtful composer he is. Wanna hear me sing? www.ChampagneHoneybee.com

I totally agree with everyone. Please invest in this record! You will not be disappointed!!!
This record sort of reminds me of the Purple Rain record/era, but of the '90's. "Gold" reminds of the song "Purple Rain" (ironically they are both the title tracks and the last songs on each of the albums), and "Pussy Control", a song with such attitude reminds me of "Lets Go Crazy". Of course, musically those 2 songs do not sound alike, but you know what i mean. I remember when Prince and the NPG did "Pussy Control" live on VH1, the reaction of some of the people in the audience when he said the magic "P" word. LOL. It was hilarious! What a great moment is music history! AHHH, Prince, the ultimate shocker, that's why we love him. Anyway, just go get it!!!!

But honestly, I can do without Dolphin...just doesn't do much for me. [Edited 11/24/05 19:34pm]

I'm hopping on this too. His best of the 90s - coulda, shoulda been his biggest album following on from the sucess of TMBGITW, the video to Dolphin and hey even the name-change! It had the potential but lacked the backing from Prince and WB and without that it didn't stand a chance. Still wished it had the original Endorphinmachine and TMBGITW though!!!.

(I've always felt there's been a certain 'energy' missing from Prince's music ever since to be honest) I have to kind of agree with you Boris - with maybe one exception: TRC. All other albums since have seemed to lack something. It could have something to with the lack [in terms of quantity] of guitar-based songs/albums since 1995.

The Rainbow Children is imo as good as, if not better than the Gold Experience. Well, maybe not better. But certainly as good. They both have some of the best material he ever put to record on them. And they both share that same passion, drive and intensity. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

How does someone signal rebirth? How does someone well in the prime of their musical career prove that they still have something new to write?
For Prince, it was simple. Usher in “The Dawn” in the form of The Gold Experience. Where Emancipation signalled his true “emancipation” from record companies, it was also indicative of an artist who either mellowed or grew tired or felt that he had nothing lef to prove. Not true, with the Gold Experience. This album felt like it was a debut album from a musical genius. It combined the fiercest eliments of the symbol album, the Fusion of SOTT, and the spiritual ferver of LoveSexy, and fused it into a tightly nit album unlike any in Prince's arsenal. True, on a surface level, one can argue that the Gold Experience was just an extension or tweaking of the Symbol Album—but, spiritually, emotionally, and conceptually—it was a rebirth. The album is almost like a debut album in some respects from it's vibe. All the songs are true songs, ready for pop radio (if not for the bad language), seamlessly tightly woven, and almost perfect in delivery. If Prince had released the Gold experience after LoveSexy, it would have eclipsed albums after it for years to come—the material is just that strong. The problem listening to it now is how he dated it with certain elements, and how it was just a wee bit too glossy—but these things can be easily overlooked considering the material. Run out and buy it. . [Edited 11/25/05 17:37pm]

It's perfection, I say. Easily hovering within the Top 3 albums of Prince's career, and it doesn't get any less stunning with repeat listens. It's got an edge, a human quality, tight songwriting, incredible energy, and that wonderful intangible quality that one can't quite put their finger on.
Prince truly caught lightning in a bottle with this one.

I love this one
For me, it ´The Ride´ and ´Days of Wild´ replaced ´Shy´ (or ´319´) and ´We March´, it would have been even better!

I agree--awesome album. (I usually skip the NPG operator parts, though.) The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.
