SST was done in less than 24 hours for hurricane relief, so I don't judge it like he spent days plotting its revolutionary musical course. A good song for a good cause, more good craftmanship than sheer genius but the point was to start raising money right away not making new artistic forays or reinventing a genre or two.

Good point. Give him some credit for making an effort. If he did nothing for charity you guys would complain about that too

The thread was for people not feeling the track. I think it is great that he did a single for charity. The song doesn't do it for me, but that is a completely seperate issue. No one is bashing him for doing the song for charity.

It's not that I can't find any worth or substance in the some of the songs of late, it's more the production for me I think. His production has never really been that great, but lately it's as dull as dish water frankly. bored

Still, he's always got an ace up his sleeve that makes me go 'wow!', hence why I stick around on this crazy ride as I have done since '83. NEWS is another example - not my thing at ALL, but I gotta take my hat off to the guy for doing (yet again) something completely unexpected from both a fan point of view and a commercial view. And for that at least, you gotta hand it to the little guy.

It's ok, nothing to get remotely excited over. The song's kickoff is catchy stuff, but after that it just settles into a muddled exercise - And that's really all the song feels like... an exercise in a particular style.

Really well put. I don't dislike it,I just feel more indifferent to it.

I don't know. It's not horrible and I dig "Brand new orleans." It gets pretty funky as it goes on. Maybe SST will grow on me, but right now I'm not digging it.

It's a nice little song for a worthy cause. Is it "When Doves Cry", "Kiss", or "Cream"? Of course not! But, I must say, that it's better than most of the crappy songs released in 2005!

Wow! That's really saying something! What about "Letitgo" or "The greatest romance ever sold?"

I felt like this b4, when I rushed 2 get the WE ARE THE WORLD cd and heard '4 The Tears In Your Eyes' and AROUND THE WORLD IN A DAY. At 1st I wasn't happy but the songs grew on me. As I type this, I'm listening 2 S.S.T./Brand New Orleans and they're cool. This would have been perfect time 2 take over & control the radio again but obviously that's not where his head is. wink

I like it a lot, although I find that I hardly ever listen to it at all.
Perhaps I just keep forgetting about it. Although I can't remember ever
having that problem with Prince songs back in the day.

the song should have started w/ SST (for like thirty seconds) and ripped into A Brand New Orleans for the duration. Possibly reverbing some of SST in and out.

That would have been a killer tune.

Thats why Prince needs peers to through ideas off of him. I've always thought of Prince as the CEO of music. He is a genius at improving other people's ideas. But on his own, his ego tends to be his enemy.
