Slave ..... need i say more !!

In 1991 he was massive , the D & P album was a great success (especially in Europe , Cream went to 1 on the US billboards) & he should have carried this on ..... 1992 prince & Sexy MF & My Name is ..... go top 10 in the UK & across Europe BUT then he rushes the release of Come which bombs !!

He comes back with the independent release of TMBGITW which is a worldwide hit, but as purpleknight has already said he doesn't make the most of this & where TGE should have been huge with more hit singles people just thought he was going a little mad with the whole slave shit & name change,
eye hate u went top 20 in US & Uk & Gold got to 10 in the UK , but GOLD especially should have done better ,it's a much better song than beautiful Girl.

Obviously albums like Emancipation & Crystal Ball were never gonna be a commercial success because of there price tag & they were more for the fans , but loads of little things over the years ..... not touring in certain places ..... SOTT didnt make it to the UK , also the infamous Blenhiem palace gig amonst others sad
Live4Love

Take ur pic from the japanese robes & sandals ,drink champagne froma glass with chocolate handles ..... dont u wanna come 3121!!

Since everything he's done up until now has made him the legend that he is. I say all of his career moves worked out well for him, one way or another! shrug

A legendary career is made up of failures as well as triumphs. It can't always be perfect. All of his moves, whether wrong or right, failure or successful, have made him the icon he is today. There should be no regrets.

thumbs up!

I second that thumbs up!

If there was one career move that Prince shouldn't have made back in the day, in your opinion what would it be?

For me, it was pulling the Black Album...

A close 2nd for me, would be adding Larry Graham to the group.
Releasing Graffiti Bridge the movie. When they all sat down and watched the final product after all the editing etc. I can't believe somebody didn't stand up and say "This is BULL$#!T we can't release this". I guess the studios had to try and make some of their 7 million back. But G.B should've went straight to video.

Rainbow Children (What was That?)

Maybe he can redeem himself by producing a Tamara and the Seen record, That would atleast be interesting and upredictable.

Ok, ok, ok, those braided ponytails and that bright blue space suit were indeed awful, I'll agree to that, but I don't believe they affected his career one way or the other!

ATWIAD

i thought this as well. though it's a great album, i can't seem to put my finger on the exact reason why i feel this way. but i've heard ATWIAD come up on several discussions about bad career moves. i remember reading an article that said people (general public) weren't ready for a 'new musical direction' from him yet and that the cover art didn't help either. shrug

You must be crazy ! Purple Rain - ATWIAD - Parade - SOTT. Where's the mistake there? They're all great, and all so different.

The biggest mistake IMO was BATMAN. Truely his biggest sell out, and the next few albums were equally commercial and bad. I wish he'd done the Gospel album that was rumoured, or at least the album without the Batman tracks would have been better. (Rave, Feel U up, etc)
