How are you so sure that that's a dig at Dre? It just seems to me that they don't like New Wave music and that was their jab at it. And you call yourself a Prince fan? It was right around this time that Andre Cymone was trying to get his brand of new wave started. He even had a song entitled, "I'm Livin' in the new wave." It was an obvious slam. Sounds feasible but this is really the first I've heard of it. I've been a fan since '80 and I've never heard this, not saying it isn't true, but just saying this is the first I've heard of THAT was what Onedayimgonnabesomebody was all about. Partly because in the song The Walk they mention not liking policeman, television and NEW WAVE, so it seems more like a jab at New Wave music at the time more so than a shot at Dre. If you listen to the end of the new wave song Onedayimgonnabesomebody on what time is it. they we don't like new wave again and then laugh. they are saying it in a way like "And we said on the walk we didn't like new wave and we just did a new wave song". Sarcastic. I don't think it has anything to do with Andre. | |

Don't know if this is true. On the out take version of old friends for sale there is a line about being lost in the snow. I heard tha tthis was about two members of teh time who where producing album and on the day they had to return to the tour to play with the time the airport was struck by a blizzard and where unable to play that night. So Prince had Jeroame 'play' the gutar 'air style' whilst Prince did all the playing behind stage.

Well you can't convince someone against their will. So I wont' try. But I still say it was a dig at Cymone. If you ask people who were alive and really into Prince at the time, they'll probably agree with me. But you're certainly entitled to your opinion. Just curious. Have you ever heard any of Cymone's albums? | |

I just don't see the correlation, not when the repeated theme for The Time around that period was to rebel and diss the establishment, which included New Wave music that was on the rise. I've heard some of Dre's stuff but I don't see what that has to do with this issue at hand since I feel it doesn't have a connection to The Time's references against New Wave.
