Yep, I feel extremely lucky to be a Prince fan - extremely lucky I was exposed to him when I was younger.
Do you ever wonder what it would be like if you were never exposed to him and his music?
Geez, you'd be missing out on so much. So many people are.
So many people are waking up in the morning, having breakfast, going to work (or school), and don't even know of this musical genius in our midst, don't realise the amount of enjoyment and satisfaction they are foregoing, and it's not really their fault - they just don't know.

'Tis a pity,

The problem for me is that Prince was the first musician I got into big time, and since then I've tried looking elsewhere for more but nothing seems satisfying compared to his genius.

I know what you mean. I downloaded every Prince song I have (and that's a lot) into my Windows Media. Hit shuffle and just let the shit play. Never get bored or tired of it! I hear new things each time I do and I'm starting to dig some stuff off of his less popular albums (i.e. The Vault, Chaos and Disorder, etc.) It makes you appreciate the fact that he's a perfectionist about his music (and probably everything else). Puff out and take a listen!

Believe it or not, that's sort of a ritual for me. Every new disc gets at least one spin with a head full of herb and the headphones up LOUD, before I'm really familiar with it.

PRINCE is like a neverending river full of inspiration. he helped to open my eyes for all kinds of music and not just looking at one style. i think it's almost impossible to compare him to any other artist today. that doesn't mean there aren't any other fabulous artists around, but i think his wide range of stylistic pieces in his work hasn't been reached by anybody else. i think it's a proove for his continuing need to explore all kinds of music and pushing away all borders that are somewhat dictated by the music industry

Well put. His diversity is at once his biggest blessing and his biggest curse. It opened my mind also and convinced me that, in the end, music is music and that categorization is for music store owners and radio execs. Honestly, how come they file Prince under R&B, when on just one CD you can have rock, rap, funk, soul, gospel, pop and psychedelia?

On the down side, his range often alienates listeners accustomed to one "style" or who prefer a specific type of music. Heck, we're all fans, and the range of opinions on his work varies wildly just within this small sect.

I think it's amazing that one man can do so much. Truly inspiring.

Yes, yes. Sometimes, while smokin a blunt, i'll put on parade or graffiti bridge, or around the world in a day. Unfortunately I don't feel very lucky to be a Prince fan as of late, but I'm still waitin for him to drop the bomb on us again someday. I didn't care for new power soul, rave, rainbow children or one nite alone. Please, everyone don't bother straining your fingers trying to persuade me otherwise, it can't be done. His music bores the shit outta me now. But I haven't given up hope, that eventually prince will get bored too, and then the funk will be back in "rare form" as billy put it. But yeah I love to listen to music while i'm high, especially music that challenges my ears. And those three P albums seem to do that the best. Right on.
And yeah It always trips me out when he puts out something that samples an outake or whatever. I found it really neat how the same guitar lick is in soulpsychedelicde, rave, and the max, and wasn't it on the small club boot as well? What about the fact that sexuality, and onedayimgonnabesomebody are basically the same song? or all the variations on cloreen bacon skin? (irrististable bitch, tricky, etc). Another one: the guitar solo from "chocolate" is in "shortberry strawcake", and that's not to mention that theres what, at least a half a dozen songs sampled in "new power generation pt 2". It's all good.
