I sent a resume to Paisley Park when it first opened
they didn't hire me so I didn't move. We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color. Maya Angelou

I'm guessing anyone who would move here to be near Prince would rather be with the rest of the fams at the NPG Music Club.

I didn't move to MPLS for Prince--I just happened to be living here and was fortunate enough to go to tons of Paisley parties/dances/shows etc.
Here's the thing: The 1st time you go to see a late night Prince show, and you are 2 feet away from him, you are in awe. You are in shock and you kept thinking to yourself "I can't believe this". Night after night you see amazing legendary stuff. Things like him playing "Sign O' the Times" for a couple hundred people. Things like George Clinton. Things like 30 minute guitar solos. Things like Mayte crowd surfing. Things like Larry Graham's wife doing a towel dance. Then, slowly but surely, a funny thing happens... After weeks on end of seeing Prince do mind blowing things, you start to get used to it. You start to take it for granted. Prince is still amazing, but what was once surreal becomes common. After awhile, I'd start to debate if I should stay up late to make the trip to the Park at 12AM. Most times I'd go, but not for the star gazing, but for the funk of it. Watching Prince so closely, so often, made a hell of a lot of musicians/performers pale in comparison. The biggest revelation I got was that Prince is a...GASP...regular human. Looking back on it now, Prince really used to spoil us here in MPLS--I am appreciative of it now, and I am not so upset if we only get a show every now and again. Now that he is not a "slave" we seem to see less of him. And that's cool. Given the current state of music, I am sure other cities need him a lot more than ours does. Besides we know how he feels about his hometown/Uptown regardless of where he sleeps. Paisley Park in in his heart (and in my backyard). [Edited 11/17/05 7:02am] "New Power slide...."

straight and to the point. i don't understand why folks are so enamoured with moving here just for the prince aspect.. there's much more to minneapolis than just prince--from time to time i get orgnotes from folks who ask me about the city because they're considering moving up here, thinking it's like fuckin Princeyland 24/7. i never answer 'em, for the simple fact that i'm not a tour guide of all things prince. that ain't why i moved up here.
