Prince, Music and More Can we just move away from the gossip and chatty threads for awhile and have an indepth thread about the music, the musician, the legacy. It's great that you newbies are hip Prince and re-discovering his talent. It's the same reason why Jimi Hendrix is still popular today as he was in the 60's. For those of you born circa 1980-90, he also plays guitar. Listening to Prince is like getting a dose of much needed musical oxygen. "If you take off your chastity belt, you can breath a little mo betta."

If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Yeah I agree, Prince is streets ahead of whats on the charts now, its all covers and boy/girl bands, idol contestants and teenage punk/come/rage /guitar metal music eg Linkun Park, along with ubiquitous rap with singers guesting on each others 'records' and rapping on about the same hos/drugs/bling/crystal/pimpin nonsense.
I was born in mid 70s but listen to a wide range of music, Prince is at the later end, I go for early 20th century comedy, 1930s-50s Nostalgia and 1940s-80s rb and soul. I am also a big fan of David Bowie and Jimi Hendrix, he still was the greatest guitar player ever, no one has been able to emulate him on the guitar. The naffish end of my music spectrum is 80s pop and late 80's hair metal like Bon Jovi, GNR and Poison. When I listen to all these people including Prince I look at the musical structure itself, Princes music as brilliant as it is seems to follow a predictable structure, drums, popping bass, chicken scratch guitars, and a variety of vocal tones are a standard Prince song, but he makes them all sound unique. My favouriote songs are the ones u can talk apart or listen to them with focus on one voice or instrument only, such as Adore (voices), or the bass in Lets work. You can't do that with most of todays music. I don't really like Prince as a person, but love his musical ability and his music. 17 Years ago I made a commitment to Prince
