Either Musicology or For You is my least favourite , both have a few tunes on them that have never really stuck in my head , thats forgiveable on a debut album but on an album 25 years into his career its very disheartening .

And well it shouldn't be like this. Prince albums are about the whole album, not just catchy melodies or such. I like his music for the whole page, not just one paragraph!

Musicology

bad album, bad memories, horrible cover, annoying songs
with bad lyrics and wanna be hip grooves plus some lame
Erykah Badu rip off that doesn't work for fck and then,
surprisingly, there are two nice songs on it.

not enough to keep it from being his worst album if you
ask me. even new power soul has at least 4 very strong,
good songs on it. even rave has 2 or 3 classic joints..

but Musicology has absolutely nothing going for it ill

shoulda released an EP to tie us over. or thrown the two
or three half decent tracks on the internet.

oh wait, he already did release them on the club, months
before the album even appeared.

i'm done now. thank you

I must have been grossly mistaken. I thought everyone here worshipped everything he did...

Dorothy Parker is great, yes. The rest is a pure waste of time. confused

wow, i never thought about it that way, but you're kinda right....except i think the version of 'joy in repetition' on there is pretty amazing. other than that and DP, it's a lot of twaddle and i can't even listen to the stuff with musiq.

A difficult one this, it depends on what you mean by worst album?

1. The one I listen to the least? Contoversy

2. The one I think is not too Musicaly interesting? The Rainbow Children

3. The one with nothing exciting to it? Musicology (I only Like Title Track and reflections )

You know, I've never even listened to this.

I think I got a few tracks into the first disc of ONA Live when I first got it, since which it's never graced my CD player. confused

i sincerely dislike that box set. all three discs feel so much like
wasted space and opportunity (after all, this was the tour that had
some of the most amazing performances of his entire career), that I
have yet to sit through the entire thing too.

i uploaded it onto my computer last week and now it's on shuffle in
my playlist and once in a while one of the songs comes up. it's a
bit more easy to listen to them that way, although I still tend to
hit the skip button.

and when "Condition of the Heart" comes on (it's a fucking 50 sec
piece of lite-piano for fcksake and it bares no resemblance to the
actual song) i still get the urge to rip out my hair.

Very little of the energy and vibrance of his live performance is captured there.

And even worse, some of the songs actually sound better in the studio.

Reflection is the one truly good song on there. And
perhaps only because the rest is so horrible.

You mustve drunk some toxic waste!! I WAS THERE IT WAS FANTASTIQUE!!!! woot!

If you actually attended all aftershows from which the album is assembled, I'm quite jealous indeed!

On Joy In Repetition, Larry Graham's bass is unfortunately quite intrusive.
Musiq is completely out of place, off-tune, and manages to ruin Prince's little guitar solo.
The remaining tracks show little resemblance to the original tracks, and are repetitive, dull and boring (at least on record) jams.
As I said before, "It Ain't Over" is worth listening for "Dorothy Parker" only, in my opinion. nod

I would be retarded if I had been able to attend all aftershows...I meant only the NY ONA afterparty! The picture on the album cover is the show I was at lol

Fashionable or no, I cannot stand NPS. Pure crap.

I also strongly dislike Batman. I see lots of fans praise this album, since it came from the 80s, but to me that album is nothing but boring filler.

Easy. "Emancipation." Not just complete and utter shit, but there's so much of it. Dreadful, dreadful album. It also didn't help that he'd touted it as the album he was "born to make". Every single thing about that album is wrong.

Prince's bottom three

Worst: N.E.W.S. Or as it's more appropriately called-SNOOZE. Not a hint of ambition to be found on this album. Save for the guitar solo in West, every minute of each song just sounds like boring rehearsal sessions. Tragically boring album.

Second Worst: The Rainbow Children Schizophrenic and uneven. In short, a total mess. That's not to mention the absolutely charmless lyrics and overdose of pretentiousness that destroys any sense of fun.

Third Worst: NewPower Soul Plastic, uninspired, derivative, and cheap sounding. It sounds like an album made by a good Prince impersonator more than the man himself.

I've never had that problem with "Sister" but I have had a similar problem with the "Parade" album. I know tons of people that used to be into Prince heavily but this album drove them away for good because it had classical music on it. I hear from people all the time...."Does Prince still do that nerdy classical shit?" I have no problem with people saying that because it pissed me off when he did it also. I simply respond by saying "He still does every now and then and he's even done dull accoustical stuff and tired ass rap since then. I agree that he lost his damn mind after "Purple Rain" but he still puts out jams every now and then when he wants to".

I've found that if you agree with something the non-fans are saying, don't be afraid to tell them. It shows them that even though you are a Prince fan, you are still an individual yourself with your own tastes and dislikes instead of just what Prince's are.
