In This Bed I Scream Appreciation Thread I am digging this song all over again lately. It has always been a fave but I have been playing it in heavy rotation lately. This song has so much going on musically, with the old school organ meshed up against this fussy, schizophrenic beat and yet it works so well. The lyrics seem so heartfelt and even though it was probably meant for W and L, it seems like a blanket mea culpa for all of the people he has rubbed wrong over the years. I love the outro, which sounds like it should be one the soundtrack for a really funky zombie flick. Yeah part of me thinks he tacked on the little two minute instrumental bit just to get disc one to 60 minutes, remember each disc of Emanicipation is exactly 60 minutes long for reasons I never could figure out, but it's all good.
Love this song! All good things they say never last...

Fun song. I like it, especially the extended part -- makes it more interesting. I think it's better written than his latest song "S.S.T." Most of Emancipation has a great feeling to it. You could tell Prince was happy when he wrote it. I dig.

cool song. i like the way he made it sound purple rain-ish
at the end with the heavy reverb guitar solo. he made it a bit like wendy and lisa era music. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Love this part of the song SO much, I actually have an edited version, which starts 4:21 into the song. That is the part I love most and is probably the most adventurous sound of the entire album.

One of the best songs to come out since the "Purple Rain" era. He sounded like the "old Prince" on this one. I would love to see him make some more tracks like this one. It's gems like this one every now and then that have kept me hanging on since the style change in 1985.

each disc was 60 mins so each disc could be counted as seperate discs and therefore up the number of units sold. if he sold 1 million sets and each disc is 60 mins. that's a told of 3 million disc sold or triple plaintum. How WEIRD is that! I was listening to this song last night, and was gonna post the same thread this morning! It is an awesome fun song and it totally has an 80's vibe to it(IMO). It was written for Wendy and Lisa. Listening to the song gives me a strange sense of closure. I'm not quite sure what it is.....it's like the feeling you would get after a long journey or something.....I don't know. But anyway, It IS definetly one of my faves!

. . [Edited 11/11/05 3:35am] I know exactly what you're talking about... I remember listening through Disc 1 feeling disappointed... Then reached the last track and I was thrilled... thinking "Now we're getting somewhere!" Guess I'm just stuck in the 80s.

It always gets played on repeat more than any other song on that disc. That song really should have been a single!

The extened part of this track shows that a glimmer of the genius of the 80's is still alive somewhere inside of him. show your face, bitch!

I think it's an overrated Prince song.
It's good, but there's nothing special about it aside from the lyrics. There are much better songs, musically on Emancipation. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.
