Prince nominated for 2006 Songwriters Hall of Fame Posted by j7 @ http://thebumpsquad.com
Date: November 2, 2005 Source: http://www.songwritershalloffame.org/ Those writers elected by our members will be inducted at our 37th Annual Induction Ceremony and awards presentation on a date in 2006 to be announced. Prince (performing) * When Doves Cry * Manic Monday * Purple Rain * Nothing Compares to U * Little Red Corvette Few artists have created a body of work as rich and varied as Prince. During the '80s, he emerged as one of the most singular talents of the rock & roll era, capable of seamlessly tying together pop, funk, folk, and rock. Not only did he release a series of groundbreaking albums, he toured frequently, produced albums and wrote songs for many other artists, and recorded hundreds of songs that still lie unreleased in his vaults. Beginning in 1980 with the release of the masterpiece Dirty Mind, Prince released nearly 20 hit albums including the incomparable Purple Rain released in 1984. Recording his own songs, Prince had over 50 hits on the Billboard charts including the top ten's "Little Red Corvette", "Delirious", "When Doves Cry", "Let's Go Crazy", "Purple Rain", "I Would Die 4 U", "Raspberry Beret", "Pop Life", "Kiss", "U Got the Look", "Sign O' The Time", "I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man", "Alphabet St.", "Batdance", "Thieves in the Temple", "Cream", "Diamonds and Pearls", "7" and "The Most Beautiful Girl in the World." Prince has also written many hit songs for other singers including "Manic Monday" a #2 hit in 1986 for the Bangles and "Nothing Compares 2 U" a #1 hit for Sinead O'Connor and one of the most popular recordings of the 1990's. Prince did not write "Manic Monday" for the Bangles and he sure as heck did not write "Nothing Compares 2 U" for Sinead

Is this some kind of joke? Have you seen the names that are already inducted?
In my opinion there are only a handful of people who have consistantly wrote good somgs throughout their careers (prince being one of them) but looking at the list it seems like they have already been handing them out to every Tom, Dick and Harry and Prince has had to wait this long to tell him and his fans what he/we have known all this time. I'd tell them where to were to go myself. I don't wanna be a poet 'Cuz I don't wanna blow it I don't care 2 win awards All I wanna do is dance Play music sex romance And try my best 2 never get bored

I think by 'performing' they mean that he is a performing songwriter. Notice the nominees at the bottom say 'non-performing', meaning they wrote songs but did not perform them.

get a late pass edit [Edited 11/7/05 8:19am] I did not post this myself because I already saw a thread on it and Parade at Housequake and txlady on the music club posted it within 2 minutes of each other and I gave them orginal credit because it was posted there 1st, not on the bumpsquad site. Glad people know about it though. Apologies 2 smittyrock70. Silence Speaks A Thousand Words.

Okay, I get your drift. However, I Wanna Be Your Lover and For You weren't sub-par. In the black community, I Wanna Be Your Lover was considered the breakthrough album that put Prince on the map. Dirty Mind only illustrated and added to Prince's musical variety. "A united state of mind will never be divided
