Do Prince hard core fans demand to much of him?

I was pondeing this thought after reading over at the npgmc posts requesting information or a date for a new release? I could be wrong in my observation but seems and only after visiting a few Prince fan sites, un'offical and the Offical fan/music club that there seems to be a different level of fandom? Are those most loyal to him, the ones who let him know what they want and how often they want it? I am right in this observation? After a few chats with a few members from some Prince websites, I notice that the demand is not all the same. There seems to be those who wait and feel a bit disappointed and then there seems to be those that still appreciate Prince as a musician respecting him just as that. Another question, are the hardcore fans (the fans who wait) his most loyal fans? And what would you consider to be a loyal fan? And are these "loyal" hardcore fans considered to be real in their appreciation for his music and him as a great musician or groupie/fanatic type fans as most musicians have?

I personally don't think that the hard core fans demand to much from him, the hard core fans have enough of his music to last for quite awhile. I think that it's the middle fan who constantly expects new music every month, and of coarse there the first ones to start critizing every aspect of his music. Just my to sense.

For what it's worth. I think that hardcore fans are the ones that have been there for quite a while, through the think and thin, the good and the bad. People that follow him for the music and not the celebrity.

for me, hardcore fans follow 'im more for the exact opposite of your definition, so that's why i'd asked. they like the music too, but they get way too caught up in his personal biz.

See, I think you just described a fammie-fam. For me, a hardcore fan is crazy for the music and knows it up, down and sideways, regardless of whether they actually like it all.

Which is why I deem you hardcore, as discriminating as your grumpy ass is. mr.green

ah, okay...but i'm so not grumpy. hug

sooooo...i'm speaking solely for myself here: i don't feel the need to demand anything from prince. i'm fine with all the stuff i have/know about. i just go with the flow of things. if he puts out something and gets chatter going amongst the fan community, fine. if he doesn't, fine. we got a shitload of back material to feed on until something comes forth. there are people who seem as if they're not getting enough material from 'im and they get pissy about it. why?

oh yeah, another thing on the subject of this thread: i really couldn't call myself "hardcore". if i owned every single album/bootlegg of prince's, which i don't (i'm super-picky, y'know mr.green), then i could call myself a hardcore fan. i'm more of a geek/enthusiast.

no matter -- Prince is gonna do what he's gonna do
if we have any sanity at all
we should be happy for the times he does "show" up
"heya, Prince -- how's it going? good to see you again!"
the problem is, he usually spoils us when he does come around
then all we want is to see more of him
but really, we should be happy to go about our lives
let him live his
and be pleasantly surprised whenever the two intersect

Exactly my thoughts. And I see these fans as you have discribed as the hardcore fans. Not only waiting and wanting the music but for news, sightings, etc (his personal life). Then, there are the casual but not unappreciative fans who don't actually "wait" and if they do it's not only for Prince music but for Music 'period', good true genuine music from the great artist of today, Prince included. As he is one of the best of the bests.

For instance a few threads at the npgmc UtellUs section. I see a couple threads from some members and they seem pretty upset and wanting. I also see a few responses from some members thinking they are in some way his children (hardcore) fan, members. I was actually very suprised at their courage to ask him for more. I was more suprised at one members response as "we have been naughty" to a question of when would there be a new CD, (therefore he is not going to reward them). Strange. I have never seen such intimate fans of a musician as I have of Prince fans.

Zalaire, is respect and having that from an individual especially one so talented and blessed as Prince more important than having his body? smile

I would like to hear Prince own view on his fans. How he see's them and what he see's IN them. What would he consider to be a fan and a fanatic/groupie type. cool
Not that there is anything wrong, or bad with that fanatic/groupie type, they still all love him and you can't go wrong with love. If I could ask, talk, conversate with him, it would be about his fans. smile

Would be an interesting conversation indeed.

I know Prince said that, but it should be your signature! I'd love to see the day you and Prince meet each other one-on-one (well maybe not so much the "on" part but you know what I mean). To see him seeing you, and to see you seeing him. yeah, that'd be great to witness

So Zelaira, if you met Prince face to face, how do you think you'd act. Would you not be able to say a word, or would you scream? Would you stay still, or would you run over to him and squeeze him? Would you faint and collapse from the outside in, or would you spontaneously combust from the inside out? Just wondering... hmmm

Zalaria, you are probably a very young fan,?

Your admiration/love for Prince is very passionate. I don't doubt there are others who feel the same way as you, only you are not afraid to express it outwardly. And actually, if I was Prince it would not be you I would be weary of but those who ARE noticable to others but try and hide it. The sneaky type. Got me? And I thank you for your honesty.

Zalaira, may I ask, have you ever met Prince? Does he know who you are?

I have also heard that Prince is more open and trusting to woman fans, that he does not take well to men fans. Especially those who try and approach him. My wonder is, is that because so many male fans also have that passionate love and admiration for him, that it may in some way scare him?
