More on the Black Album when being asked about my favorite prince album, I go back and forth between SOTT and the Black Album. I consider it part of Prince's best work.
But what are your favorite tunes on it? I find "2 Nigs" just outstanding. the other day, after listening to the record for 14 years, I got really heavy into "Rock hard in a funky place." "Peace and Benz -- The future, made in Germany"

Funny I just have the Black Album in my discman today.
One of my fav´s is Bob George, real raw funk. I love it! And ofcourse Rock Hard In a Funky Place, dig the sound, the horns and the lyrics. The Black Album is one of my fav´s too, it´s a tie with Come. Weird taste, right? --------------------------------------------------

not so weird, I like prince when he's more in touch with his black self. he gets real lowdown and funky. "Peace and Benz -- The future, made in Germany"

yeah me too, he has a real dark side and I dig it.
Although he lost the touch with it a little. Hope it will come back! --------------------------------------------------

My least favorite song on it is "When 2 R in Love." It seems out of place to me. Other than that, I love this album from beginning to end.

But what are your favorite tunes on it? SOTT and TBA are definately my two favourite Prince albums. I love every song (maybe with the exception of When 2 r In Love which I just 'like') on those two album. I couldn't possibly pick just one I loved most. Quailty from end to end. "Dead on it" is crazy, too!

Yeah I love the Black Album also but unlike most I also love When 2 R In Love. I saw it as Prince being his usual unpredictable self and putting it smackdab in the middle of everything. And Rock Hard In A Funky Place is Prince at his wittiest and best! Come on he opens it up with a line like "Does anybody know you're here?" Gotta love it! Classic Prince!

Isten, I have made the Camille album too, and I ran it into the ground. I even have the Camille version of Housequake which is different than the one on SOTT and well as the 1985 version of Strange Relationship. As for the Black Album a.k.a The Funk Bible(the real name of the album-listen to the slow voice at the beginning of Le Grind)I was so disappointed on Dec 7th,1987 when I went to the store which was a distributor, told me it was cancelled. What a way to get a 17 year old kid mad. However, he told me to wait a few months for a Prince album called Lovesexy. He knew all the underground info. He even got me my first copy of the Black Album on tape a week after it was pulled. The copy was real bad, but I got a feel for the funk. In 1988, I finally got my hands of a crispy clean version on cd from a bigtime Prince bootlegger. Man, I was floored by the hard hitting funk. The album is classic, as it goes down in history as one of, if not the most bootlegged album. The best thing is that it's still funky today. __________________________________________________

The Camille album is an album he planned in 1986 (or 1987?), this album featured solely songs with his speeded-up "camille" voice. I think even a test pressing was made. All of the songs have been released on other albums, except for "rebirth of the flesh", if I'm not mistaken.

A lot of people diss the black album and praise lovesexy but I always liked the funk bible BA.
A funny thing is that it is heavily related 2 lovesexy. Without the one no other could exist. The way of releasing it 2 the public was brilliant. The normal way 4 lovesexy and the bootleg way 4 the black album. I don't say it was on purpose but in retrospective it's brilliant. It really captures the funk. I was lyrical when Prince played 'dead on it' in Rotterdam in 1988. It was very short but it was an extra acknowledgement that the Black Album was out there. --- Other cd that captures the Prince funk : themix.united.net.kg Ich bin bei der Neue Kraft Bewegung

For me, the 86-88 recordings will never be bettered. Even the outtakes are better than many of the later singles and album tracks.
How can Shockadelica not make it on a released album!?!? I was listening to Cindy C on my discman on the train the other day. Its so hard not to pull that "funky face" in front of a packed carriage when Prince does his stuff on this! .

Istenszek said That was when "Rockhard In A Funky Place" floored me. Damn that song is cool. The horn part is just sick. His voice sounds so bold on it!
Istenszek... ever noticed ICNTTPOYM live from the SOTT tour contains that same 'sick horn part' from RIAFP you are talking about? You are not my "friend" because you threaten my security.

This is one of my favorite albums...I burned three copies of it because I play it so often...I don't want to ruin the original. There's not one song that I don't like on this one...
