Hendrix the movie - Andre 3000 or Prince ?

I just heard that Andre 3000 will be playing Jimi Hendrix in the upcoming Hendrix movie and not Prince ! This really annoys me as I know Prince would be perfect 4 this role. Do u guys agree ? I also vaguely remember ages ago that Prince said that he wouldn't be able to do justice 2 the role or some crap.
Any1 remember this ?
I just can't believe all the things people say !

Andre resembles hendrix more features wise, however, its clear that Prince can match him in guitar technique(imo), so to have prince actually play parts of the hendrix songs would be awsome, some dubbing for lyrics would need to be done i guess but i really cannot see prince in a jimi hendrix role.

I wouldn't worry about it, .

In fact i think the whole project has been shelved because of Hendrixs' estate not allowing any of his music to be used.

Prince circa 81-84 would have made an excellent Jimi.

Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

look at four brothers. Andre can act and Prince can't. Also Prince is too short and old.

they need to cast an unknown, or someone who can really "get" hendrix's energy and mannerisms. laurence fishburne circa 20 years ago would have been a great choice.

Andre would be an okay choice, but I'm with Anx on this - an unknown would be the better choice. Prince? No. Too old for that role.

In the late 80s,there was a rumor that Prince would play Hendrix in a movie.I think it could have worked back then. But now,I simply think Prince is too old to play Hendrix, who was young when he died.Andree3000 is the better choice.

fishburne was a great Ike Turner, but i dunno how good a hendrix he would make, although i do agree that an unknown would fit the bill

he wouldn't make a good hendrix now - he's too old and his build has gotten too big. but back around the early-mid '80s...i can totally see it.

Prince wouldnt be perfect for the role. Andre 3000 is perfect. The only thing Prince has in relation to J Hendrix is the guitar playing skills. Im a fanatic for Prince but Andre 3000 was the right choice.

I disagree completely for start Andre can't act at all. I saw him in Four Brothers and cringed whenever he spoke...read aloud his lines. I don't see either of them doing a better job than Wood Harris did a few years back. Now he's a REAL actor and it showed in his performance.

Exactly. There's already been a Hendrix movie out and Wood Harris was awesome in it. Andre3000 isn't anymore Jimi Hendrix than anyone else on this board.

This was a topic over in Non Music damn near a year ago when it first came out that Andre was contacted to play Jimi. The overall vibe over there was that Andre may not be able to pull it off. That's a sentiment that I also agree with. Many of the opinions over in Non Music came from guitarists such as myself. We all dig Andre as an artist, BUT, he's not profecient enough on the axe to be convincing. Plus, he would have to pull all of that of LEFTHANDED. He's righthanded and plays that way. Jimi was also righthanded, but he played left. Many pics of Jimi writing lyrics confirms this. That's just another thing Andre would have to deal with, playing left handed. Jimi is the most beloved and celebrated guitarist ever. MANY eyes would be on Andre and if he didn't pull it off in a convicing fashion, well, that would hurt the credidbilty of the film. Jimi has to be matched like Denzel matched Malcom X. Period.

As usual, U nailed it Bro. BUT... with all of the effects available to film makers these days, it would be easier 2 make Andre3000 look like he can play the guitar (and left-handed), than it would 2 make Prince look like Jimi. Prince looks about as much as Jimi as Stevie Ray Vaughn. Andre could come close with some serious makeup and FX. Plus, he's tall, and slightly awkward... like Jimi.

Peace.

Let's also remember how hard it is for a 50 yo to play someone in their late 20s

20 years ago, Prince would've been a perfect choice for a Jimi Hendrix movie. He's a little too old now.

I think Lenny Kravitz is the obvious choice.

nod its just like everyones been saying prince is too light and short to do hendrix. if the hendrix estate would authorize 4 the music to be used i think andre would be great, he just gotta work that left handed guitar thang out. and even tho the movie itself was quite sucky i thought wood harris did a great job in that hbo movie. an unknown would be good as well, but he REALLY has to bring it

I'll tell U who would've been great 20 years ago... The guy in the audience in Purple Rain that casting purposely chose as a Jimi Hendrix lookalike. NOONE can tell me that wasn't intentional.

Let's see who knows which extra I'm talkin' about.

Andre does look quite a bit like Hendrix, but if you were to really do the role justice, the guy would have to a REAL guitar player, just as Jamie Foxx was perfect for Ray Charles because he went to college on a piano scholarship and could actually sing. Prince? you gotta be kidding me lol. Can't act, too effeminate, too small, looks nothing like him, doesn't play lefthanded (nor could he really duplicate Hendrix's more impressive live performances)

No, I think Prince is too much of a musician to be representing Hendrix as an actor. He is a great artist in his own right

On the other hand, I wish Prince recorded a tribute album to his heroes, playing songs by Jimi, Sly, etc with new arrangements.
