no because they have surpassed him many times in the business...Jam and Lewis are much better music makers than Prince these day and have been since 1988.

apples to oranges.
Jimmy and Terry have done very well on their own since their prince/time days. They've become very talented producers in their own right.

Now, that said, they have given props on a few occaisions for Prince starting the whole Mpls Sound movement, even saying they would've probably done what Prince did(fired a band member when they didnt show for a concert b/c they were working on outside talent) if they were in his shoes.

Prince opened the door for them, but he didn't make them the success that they have become since.

I wouldn't say they've surpassed him in any way...they are good producers for Janet and the other bands they've worked for. They've sold more records for their side projects than Prince...but that's their main job. Being an musician is Prince's main job...apples to oranges.

All praise and respect due to Jam & Lewis but everything they produce sounds very generic and similar to these ears.

I read an interview only 2 weeks ago (can't remember where) where they stated that they would like to work with Prince.
If they'd make it sound like Janet's latest album I'd rather they stayed away.

biggrin Still, you gotta admire the decades they have spent pushing the limits of popular music. How many have stayed on top as long as those guys? Amazing, any way you slice it.

They certainly have a formula for their songs but have written some classics like:
Tender Love-Force MDs
Human-Human League
Saturday Love-Cherrel?
On Bended Knee-Boys to Men
Can you stand the rain-New Edition

I give Jam and Lewis ultimate props for surviving so long and staying in the mix. I'm always surprised at the amount of success that they still achieve.

Yeah, the P-man got them in the game, and kicked them out of the Time, but Terry and Jimmy built thid thang themselves from the ground up.

I think a collab with Prince would be interesting. They had a hand in some of the Pandamonium cuts. (Your World is tight!) I don't think Prince would let them dominate, though.
