1999 Album cover art- analyzed..

I framed this and its on my wall now. I was taking another closer look at it, and wondered what you all thought about what the cover means--

1. Did Prince do this art?
2. Funkadelic influence for sure..
3. Why the football and the revolution backwards, did he sort of give them credit for this album?
4. What is the P?
5. Rude Boy, the eyes, his jacket studs and the "1" are my favorite parts.

Anyway, I don't know much about this cover or if it's ever been analyzed here. I think it's one of the coolest covers ever, it takes you into Prince's world and makes you wonder what the music sounds like inside..

Don't know the answer to these, but I think it's interesting to look at the 1999 art alongside the Gett Off single art. I think Prince drew both, and it's interesting that these came at very different stages of his career.

Very cool thread. I have dissected the artwork years ago. One hint; The P in his name is the profile of a lion's head.

1. Did Prince do this art? Yes
2. Funkadelic influence for sure.. Um hm
3. Why the football and the revolution backwards, did he sort of give them credit for this album? Don't know about the football, but he was starting the revolution idea
4. What is the P? I always thought the P was a silhouette of a pony...
5. Rude Boy, the eyes, his jacket studs and the "1" are my favorite parts. Love it.

That's the first thing I noticed. Also, it looks like there is a pussy in the bottom corner of the "E". I also like the hand reaching down from heaven and the guitar burning in hell on the letter "R".
Andy is a four letter word.

S'a great cover, I love these homemade covers, they're much more organic.

I'd say Exodus and the early Come cover (and some others from around that time like the early Get Wild cover) are from the same place, so to speak, in their Funkadelic/Parliament influence.

Besides the Funkadelic inspiration, I'd say a Tom Tom Club influence also on 1999, they were around just before 1999, right? confuse

I always thought of it as the ladder down to the basement he was locked up inside during his childhood years.

He's not proud of his teeth? "C"

Only recently noticed "The and Revolution."
