confuse why would you even put those two titles in the same sentence?

Alot of peolpe may not know this. But the movie "Purple Rain" actually more tickets in 1984 than "8 Mile" did in 2002-03.

Purple Rain sold 20.4 million tickets vs. 20.1 million for 8 Mile.
Also if you convert the inflation factor from 1984 to 2005, Purple Rain would've grossed to over 131 million dollars! 8 Mile would've grossed over 129 million by 2005' standards!

just my 2 cents.

I liked them both but Purple Rain wins this. Eminem himself said 8 Mile was modeled after Purple Rain.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

8 Mile was the better movie, but PR was a phenomenon for reasons that go beyond the movie itself.

As soon as I saw 8 Mile I realized it was semi based on/influenced by Purple Rain.

Especially with that whole "Lose Yourself" being put together in various stages across the film, like you see him trying to write the lyrics on the bus, then things from all the battles influence the lyrics and eventually at the end he has the whole song.... just like the song Purple Rain in the movie.

Either way, 8 mile is a sad imitation. What I liked about Purple Rain was that it was original for its time. This is 2005, maybe Em should have just went with his own story, whatever that might be.

Why should he? It was a success.

PS: the movie was released in 2002.

8 Mile has a lot more in common with Saturday Night Fever than it does with Purple Rain.

Whether it was released in 2002 or 4002, it was still lame... nod

I seriously doubt that we will all be talking about 8 mile on its 20th anniversary(unlike Purple Rain).Prince=Sheer class,Eminem=overrated trash.Even snoop dogg has starred in better films in his career. And i think that someone more obnoxious than marshall mathers will come along before 8 mile hits its 20th anniversary. And that picture wasnt arnold from different strokes but michael jacksons first boyfriend(just his type i believe).

Purple Rain had a much more Positive Vibe to IT. 8 mile was such a low life film. First class Trash Rap wins in this one. If you can Trash the other rapper best, then you Win a way out of the Hood. Trash Talk Rap - Not a positive thing. The movie probably was true to life today, but I still think its a Sad way to go through life.

Now thats what I like to see in this site: someone makes a claim and can actually back it up with research and facts. Are the Wendy and Lisa flunkies listening?
