"like it´s 1999" Hi people
A co-worker emailed some news about Google, and the title was "Google is hiring like it´s 1999". Being brazilian (my english is very limited), I ask you: is it a regular english expression or they borrowed the line from "1999" ? Just curious... Thanks in advance.

Maybe it's a reference to the way so many programmers, etc. were being hired in 1999 to help fix hardware/software for Y2K? Otherwise, no, it's not a common English expression. In fact the only place I've heard it is in Prince's song! "I would say that Prince's top thirty percent is great. Of that thirty percent, I'll bet the public has heard twenty percent of it." - Susan Rogers, "Hunting for Prince's Vault", BBC, 2015
