The Sun, The Moon and the Stars...

Alright, I just listened to this one for the first time in a long, long time, and I'd totally forgotten the random reggae breakdown toward the end of the song.

So the question is... Yay or nay on the reggae?

I personally kinda liked it. Something a little different. cool

Nice song, but the reggae vibe at the end totally ruins the song.

Ahh it's a great song on a mostly mediocre album. A lot of really good tracks recorded in the last decade or so by Prince seem to be forgotten due to the fact they end up on very average albums. The reggae thing i could've done without though.

For me, it´s a good song that needed a better production...nice melody, I wish it was recorded with current NPG. I love the ending...the orchestrations of Clare Fischer reminded me of brazilian beaches...must be because he worked with João Gilberto also...biggrin

The reggae is fine for me, but non-fans would probably hate it...hehe

Agree.
We all want Prince to release as much music as possible but think about it...if he had released less and compiled albums with more of these gems on them ( or combined them with some vault classics) his output would not get dissed the way it gets dissed here by his own fans.
I´m happy with the way things are, but I guess some classic, filler-free albums a la SOTT or Purple Rain could have been made instead of hit-and-miss stuff like Rave etc.
Think about underrated gems like And God Created Woman, I Hate U, Reflection, Shhh, Acknowledge Me, Strays Of The World, 7, Right Back Here In My Arms, However Much U Want, Ain´t No Place Like U, Count The Days, The Good Life,I Love U But I Don´t Trust U , Prettyman, Manowar-Remix, I Hate U Remix, Get Wild , and the list goes on...all lost and didn´t get the attention they rightfully deserved and some people think he no longer has it in him to create great songs, but IMO these songs are very good, maybe even on par with some of his classics from the 80´s...

I really dig the reggae part. My sister really loves reggae music and when she heard Prince's reggae part in the song she was really feelin' it. It had her dancing N' shit. It's my favorite part in the song.
Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

I don't really care 2 reggae but I love this song. It really reminds me of the movie Under The Cherry Moon. All of my friend love this jam/gem. If U ask me it's the best song on the CD. It's a classic.

in hindsight, this album isn't as bad at all, when compared to Musicology

unlike most peeps here I like Rave a lot. Sun Moon and Stars is one of my least favorite on the album though. The reggae vibe on that song is really lightweight. On the other hand, I love the hell outta Rippagodazippa! cool
Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

No the albun really isn't that bad. I just didn't care 4 some of the guest. I think Prince really played it safe, but it was cool.

The only problem with the "reggae" part is that the vocals are mixed way too loud... nod
