If some1 sees the symbol with the words Purple Reign, of course their gonna think it's Prince. It's very misleading and I'm sure that's what their intentions were and if that wasn't their intentions then they certainly didn't put much thought 2 this. |

Actually UNiversaluv is right. Copyright gives the copyright holder the right to be sole and exclusive producer of any work deriving from the copyrighted work (or so says the judge in this opinion). So unless Prince gives his permission:

The Prince costume wasn't pulled at our local Targets. We didn't go as Prince, but we saw them on sale. It was still on sale at my Target the day before Halloween. As for the symbol, Prince is right and he would win in court if he sued. The cover is misleading and I don't see Prince allowing his symbol to be associated with satanic imagery. Some of you cats are crazy thinking that Prince has copyrights validation. This case would be thrown out. Know why? It's a doctored symbol. Everything isn't exactly like the Prince symbol. Therefore not in copyright violation.
Seriously, this happens all the time with numerous bands. Grateful Dead and Funkadelic Let's take it to the stage logo. But if its doctored. Prince can't do a thing about it. Because Prince's symbol is doctored grafted symbols anyways. the image is tilted anyways. This case doesn't have a chance in hell. scare tactics. I'd keep the symbol. forget prince. Whether the band is paying respect to him is not the point, if I make a film and use Prince Music because i love the music and to pay respect to him , i still have no right too. U cannot take another persons likeness and use it, that simple whether u agree or not. actually, the part of the symbol they've used doesn't belong to him. it's the symbol for soapstone. had they put the ring on top of it, sure, it would be his. and he might possibly win because of the other circular logo attached to the top of it, but strictly speaking, the part they're using doesn't belong to him. How many have they sold so far cuz it has SLAYER top (that being the 4 sword crossing each other then instead of slayer it says Fenix TX) and Prince bottom?
Well the actull cd doesnt come out till this Tuesday.. so by RIAA count none as of yet. how many have they sold while Fenix TX been on tour and it is on sale at the tour. probly many.. why? BEASUE THEY ARE FREAKIN FENIX TX FANS!!!! get over yourself people.. as for making a movie with prince music,.. depends on which music.that is why Kevin Smith had a problem with Prince he wouldnt let him use (TNBGITW) but but the Time was ok..if he wanted WB stuff he could of used it no problem all u need is $$$. also if u are redoing the song there really isnt to much they can do about it.. thats why movies like "Hendrix" used all those different covers because the estate didnt give them the right to use the actully songs.. so u go make a new ones.. 50 First dates.. all those 80s song cost to much.. go make your own covers for cheaper will i buy this cd? And you know what else? I fucking LOVE SLAYER!!! You always gotta say it like that: SLAYER!!!! Satan is cool. SLAYER!!! is cool. If you don't like it don't buy it. My old band used to use Prince imagery mixed with cartoon satan stuff all the time. It was totally in our leagl and ethical rights to do so. It's not like Prince can't be commented on. even if he doesn't like the commentary.
