You think Prince loves his fans enough to give them TheVault

And to share whats been put away for some years already? There is a reason he is not sharing more of what he has with his fans, especially his hardcore fans who keep asking for "new" music.

Also, listen, what do you think he has in mind for this unreleased Music? Do you think it's possible he can be saving it for new musician/or band. There were the Jimi Hendrix's, the Jimmy Pages, and now there is the P. There WILL be another, he is out there somewhere smile

I don't think he should. Every time he gives us a CD of vault material, the fans who say they really want this stuff all complain about how bad the albums are (i.e. "The vault: Old friends for sale" and "Crystal ball"). I, personally, like both of those CD's.
Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.

He knows even that the old stuff he didn't release back then is miles ahead of what he's putting out now, and that scares the shit out him.

Not releasing it is the equivalent of sticking your fingers in your eyes and shouting "MARY HAD A LITTLE LAMB, LITTLE LAMB"

The PROBLEM is HE WAITS TOO LONG to RELEASE what has been OUT on BOOTLEG for some time. If he did it before IT got BOOTED then YES. I think he SHOULD HURRAY and RELEASE it ALREADY....WHATCHA WAITIN 4???? Then also CREATE new JAMS. WHAT'S WRONG with GLUTTING or SATURATION at THIS POINT?

I agree. He gave us Crystal Ball and so many fans moaned about already having most of this on bootleg already or that there weren't enough 80's out-takes. I'm sure another Vault release would again set fans moaning about what was chosen for inclusion, and conversely, what was ommitted.

On the other hand, this stuff sitting in the vault going mouldy is doing no one any favours. Might as well put out more Crystal Balls and just brave the inevitable criticism. Or at the very least leak a track a month at the NPGMC.

I was thinking about this the other day while listening to "Crystal Ball"..how AMAZING the track "Crucial" is. It kinda got lost in the mix on a project like Crystal Ball. I think the song rates up there with many of his other essential 'masterpieces'

A 5 CD set is a lot to digest at once and its pretty easy on a compilation that big for songs to be skimmed instead of really appreciated. Plus we've grown to expect so much out of a Prince recording. Yet being in this dry spell,

I REALLY wouldn't mind a 12 CD box set right about now.
Even a compilation of Prince farting a Xmas Carol collection out of his ass would be welcome. Anything.

And that may be why we're given this long of a silence treatment...so whatever does come out next is going to be really anticipated.

Correcto-mundo. I think that's the main reason why he mucked up the Crystal Ball release with remixes and all kinds of unnecessary filler. If he would have organized the songs to compile coherent CDs by period and theme, it would have had the effect you described.

That's because he won't put the right stuff on the album....the stuff before 1984. If he released an album of stuff like "Extraloveable" and "Heaven", I wouldn't complain at all.

"The Vault" had some stuff from that era but it sounded like it had been re-recorded to sound the way he did after he changed his style in 1985.

"The Vault" has no recordings on it that would stem from a period prior to the 90s. There's just "Old Friends 4 Sale", but that version is a completely re-recorded one, I'd assume during 1991-93 (the official word is 1991, but I'm a bit speculative of that one).

Interesting theory's here. May be some truth in all. I'm sure there's not only one reason he is holding back.

Come on Prince, release wink

I think so too. I can't image Prince even doing another tour. He seems So over that. Once he covered and layed to rest some oldies but goodies (songs) during the Musicology tour. I think he is moving on to other phases in not only his life but also, the music industry. cool

Prince will continue to do as he always has: release vault songs periodically. Once you realize that the guy is his own man, then you know he'll just do what he wants. Whatever his mood is at the time. He's no longer a starving artist. So the incentive to prove himself is no longer there.

Jingle Bells anyone?
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

i think some of the tracks can't be released for the following reasons:

contractural obligations

songwriting credits(for various artists that he worked with)

will stipulation.

heck.i'm glad for what's out there NOW. wink

I don't know for sure, but I doubt that Warners would still own unreleased Prince tracks that were recorded on his own time in his own studio. So I don't see how it could be a contract problem. Heck, he could even re-record them from new.

It's probably true he'd have to pay royalties to any co-writers which he may be unwilling to do - but really, the majority of songs Prince writes alone.

Will stipulation? Who's, Prince's? What, he can't go against his own will?!
