People do this kinda thing all the time. No big whoop. My mom legally changed her nickname into her legal first name. A friend of mine just had the spelling of her baby daughter's first name legally changed because she found a version of the name she liked better. Happens all the time.

The birth certificate does say Roger, not Rogers, but his father SAID he named him Prince Rogers after his trio.
Also my name was misspelled on my original birth certificate--partly because they asked my mom for the spelling while she was still partially sedated! Something similar could have happened with Prince. After all, Rogers is a bit more unusual than Roger (and it ain't much cooler )

I was just recently looking on a geneology site and found the birth records for many of my aunts/uncles/cousins, I'd say about 1 in 8 had something wrong on it...

My grandma also told me that she was listed as a boy originally on her birth cert
