What version of Purple Rain do you prefer live? I have seen the man perform this song a million different times, but I personally liked the version he did at the concert 'Prince and The Revolution Live!' from Syracuse, NY in 1985.
I like the instrumental in the beginning where Wendy is playing and Prince joins in with that kick ass solo. What is your favourite version? Please do tell.

I love the version from Live '85!!! I especially love the part where Wendy is playing, and then the lights hit Prince with the White Cloud and the music erupts . . . that is amazing!
My other fave, although not exactly "live" is from the '96 VH-1 Emancipation special.

I would have to say...hmmm, the American Music Awards '85. IT KICKED MUCHO ASSH! This is definetly better than Syracuse (although it was good)

1985 American Music Awards when he kicks the mic stand, looks pissed and screams and continues into a whopping solo !
Lenny Kravitz got his whole style, look and head movement from that one performance !!!@ I also like the version he did during RAVE. I'm glad he's not playing this all the time though. I heard he's done it at the piano during ONA ! I'd rather here Open Book, Get Blue, Electric INtercourse or somethign else rare !

The one from syracuse in 85, its the first time i saw him playing purple live,on tv. It was on german tv live via satalite. The show started around 3/4 am...i remember it like i was yesterday. I was up all night. I got goosebumps all over. thats already 17 years ago...am i getting old?
Come to think about it, i am a fan 20 years now, thats more then the half of my life... free ur mind

Hi,
I really like the version he played in New York 2002. Ín stead of the usual guitar-version (83-01), it's a piano-version... I think he played Purple Rain way too many times, but this piano version is a nice one! Peace, TheKid Life's what u make it, stop whining baby Love comes 2 those who care... I'm not the biggest Purple Rain fan and think the song is a bit over rated (don't flame me). But I have to agree that this version rocks!

I like the earlier live versions but I really like the Rave version the best so far.

I would have to say my favorite is the one he performed on the Arsenio Hall show back in '91. That was great.
