Graffiti Bridge (The album) Who here likes it?

I was just listening to "the question of u" and man there is some beautiful guitar work on that song. Heck, thats not even mentioning all the other great instrumentation on it.
"Why'd I waste my kisses on you baby?" R.I.P. Prince You've finally found your way back home. Well Done.

Cheek

I'm listening to "Graffiti Bridge" right now! smile

I really love it though this album is one of his weakest works... smile

My favourite songs are "New Power Generation", "The Question Of U", "Elephants & Flowers", "Joy In Repetition" and "Graffiti Bridge"!!! boxed

I think I'm gonna burn a CD, putting only the Prince songs together:

Can't Stop This Feeling I Got
New Power Generation
The Question Of U
Elephants & Flowers
We Can Funk
Joy In Repetition
Tick, Tick, Bang!
Thieves In The Temple
Still Would Stand All Time
Graffiti Bridge
New Power Generation (pt. II)
+
Get Off
The Lubricated Lady
Loveleft, Loveright

cool

The strong songs are incredible and the weak songs are pure shit. It's like two albums in one.
The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

The album and the movie were, to me, a desperate, vain, over-produced disaster from a money-minded, aging pop artist who just had a decade of unparalleled success... Prince really hasn't made a real solid album statement since LoveSexy. But it's Prince, so it's not that bad. It could be worse.

So, flame me

I have been defending this album for the longest time. Lots of people think Question of U is an amazing song. It is cool that you brought it to people's attention though. Thanks! worship Hail Graffiti Bridge!

It's a good album. Unusual because it actually is setup like a soundtrack, where unless you knew that about Purple Rain, you'd never guess.

GB was a bit of a relief for me becuase Prince dove back into POP again where he was really more-or-less on the fringes of POP music stylistically. Albiet I wouldn't call GB generic sounding, it was pop-friendly.

Standout tracks for me were: GB, Theives In the Temple(dissapointing but a good single), The Question of U, Elephants N Flowers, We can Funk, Release it, Joy in Repitition(possible one of Prince best songs ever), and melody cool. Damn, come to think of it, GB has as many good tracks on it as the symbol album prince. eek

The film is the #1 reason why I don't love Prince unconditionally.
And the tick tick bang scene will haunt my dreams forever.

I've often wondered how well GB the album would've done had the movie not SUCKED sooooo bad. It really was one of his best. Prince came to his senses after Graffiti Bridge and has left Hollywood alone since then. (Thank God). The only song I don't like is "Release It" Pewwwww!!

I don't think that as far as ablum sales goes, it would have made much of a difference. GB didnt' bomb (at least in my neck of the woods) becuase the movie sucked, but becuase nobody saw the movie. Only one movie theatre carried it.

To me, GB was Prince's attempt to capture the "Dirty Dancing" soundtrack success. Also, people just didn't want to hear from Prince at that time. We have to remember the guy was churning albums albums out every 11 to 13 months or so then.

But I concur, it was one of his best albums.

To me, GB is awful. Just the sound of it alone makes me cringe. I think there were some great songs on it and that maybe if they were recorded differently I would dig them more. That was the start of a bad stretch for Prince. I didn't really love any of his subsequent albums till the Gold Experience.

Snap

I like most of the songs, and some are brilliant compositions:

Can't Stop This Feeling I Got
New Power Generation
The Question of U
Elephants & Flowers
We Can Funk
Joy in Repetition
Tick, Tick, Bang
Thieves in the Temple
Still Would Stand All Time

even if some of you don't like some of those songs
still ya gotta admit that the above track listing
would make a damn good album!!

Everything it could have been...everything is should have been...was completely negated by the title track. That title track is the turd in the pool that prevents me from ever listening to the entire album.

EAL

I picked it up, along with The Rainbow Children, the other day.
After all i had heard here and elsewhere about how these were
lesser works i was pleasently surprised. They are both great,
great albums. Especially compared to Rave and Musicology, both
of which i think are just ok.

I do.

Can't Stop This Feeling I Got - I like to listen to this one while cleaning or jogging.
Still Would Stand All Time - My favorite track on the album.
We Can Funk - My second favorite.
Joy In Repetition - Nice song.
New Power Generation - Sure, it might sound dated now, but it was hot back then. And I still like it.
Elephants And Flowers - I like this one in the same way I like "I Wish U Heaven" and "Walk Don't Walk" - a melodic tune and nice, positive lyrics.
"She made me glad to be a man"
