prince and stevie

though prince probably, in my life, stands out as the one most influental musician, musically and generally, I must say that stevie represents everything that I miss about prince.
stevie's soul, groove and almost unworldly, but still so natural, musicality

when i periodically get tired of the somehow complex, imaginary and self-centered world of the little man, stevie is the answer.

try TALKING BOOK....

Oh yes, the two are my two favorites, and have been for along time. I've been listening to Stevie's newest,'A Time 2 Love', and really enjoy it. Some of the songs could fit on some of his greatest albums out of the seventies.

I dont think the 2 artists are similer, but "money dont matter tonight" sounds like a stevie song.

nuts, once again, have you really listened to anything made in the early 70s? Cuz I could imagine someone having a problem with his 80s voice and beyond but his early 70s voice is just sublime

yeah, my dad has some of it. As i said its like the dylan thing with me. Loads love or hate dylans voice and interpretation to a song, same with me and whiny old stevie. His voice just annoys me sometimes...

I seriously advize you to listen to a full album from the early 70s, if he doesn't grow on you, then there may be no hope for you disbelief

Yes, I can feel that too. Steevie has a joy that P. shows too. I think some songs of P. are emotionaly stronger, and some are on a sad motion.

I'm happy P. can express much more than lots of artists in his songs, and the whole makes it great.

I can understand he can't be locked in any music kind cuz he's so a "visionnaire" !

A lot of "For You" period were groovy. Songs of the man are strong.

Listen to Music of My Mind, as great as SITKOL is, it's when he started to become a tad too sappy and his voice became nasally and it's a ton of music to digest. Listen to others before you tackle that one. Oh what am I bothering with this for you're hopeless lol

So Stevie represents everything you miss form Prince? That's funny cause if I had to point out a musical act that I miss out on Prince that'd probably be, you know, Mental Destruction or something. Prince just doesn't have that ear-shattering doomsday noise about him.

to this discussion it might be appropiate to mention that stevies best (IMO) records are those fabricated in the 70'es, and the sound of that decade is somehow warmer and more organic than latter decades. the first of prince's album FOR YOU has a bit of that smooth 70 sound, and actually rades among my favorite prince albums. the sound on 80, 90 and 00'es records are somewhat colder and more digital (no wonder..)

so, had prince had the chance to offer us a few more records in the 70, we would have been blown away and the little man would outdo any of that decades masters!! as he have with the latter masters!!

I like Stevie's old stuff, from the 70's. I cannot stand his newer stuff. Incidently, itunes has just released his entire cataloge. It includes all of his albums plus rarities. One of those rarities is the Prince version of "Cold Chill", from Stevie's Conversation Piece", album from a few years back. This was a cut that was mentioned in the Vault. As for Prince, I like all of his stuff. I just look at his stuff as mood music. Here is what I mean, if I want to jam, I will listen to Sign o' the times. If I want to relax, I will put on rainbow children. In Stevie's case, I could listen to his 70's stuff no matter what moon I am in. I cannot do that with his later stuff.

I C similarities in the 2. Prince can make u think of Stevie Wonder, James Brown, George Clinton, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, Jimi Hendrix, Mick Jagger, Bob Dylan, Al Green & few others. I guess the same way D'Angelo, Rapheal, Maxwell, Georgio, Pharrel, John Legend and a few other can put U in the frame of mind of Prince. Maybe it's the influence they get from each other.

you don't have to like his music, but i have never heard anyone say that Steve Wonder doesn't have good voice. To put him in the same category as Dylan in that respect.... man, what is you smokin'.... hmmm.. the original mr. mumbles...
