The song was Modernaire and it was Dez Dickerson, the original Revolution guitarist. He didnt open on the tour; Sheila E did. Goto dezdickerson.com or oneman.com and check out his great CDs and his even greater book.

Thats a trip I thought that was Prince on the guitar of "corvette".
I wonder why he left the Revolution and Prince was still cool to give him a spot in the movie?

I wonder why he left the Revolution and Prince was still cool to give him a spot in the movie? He left on friendly terms. Dez got some religion and wasn't feeling comfy in the band no more. Cool that Prince was still there for him though. Dez went on to pursue a solo deal and tour with Billy Idol. He became a Christian record exec and owner of his own label, releasing a couple more albums by himself and for others (including his son's group). Dez recently released, just this year, the full version of "Modernaire" in a 2-disc retrospective package w/ book. The Purple Rain version (the same as the one Dez has made available) is very Prince-like because Prince had a big hand in the production of the song (per Dez). Peace.

Well, that is probably the one reason Prince would be cool, with all of his religious circumstances.

What I really want to know is does Dez do music full time or is he working part time at McDonalds?

Seems to me that Dez is quite happily employed as a Christian musician, producer, songwriter, record exec, etc. Seems like he's always helping somebody out, and when he has time, he's talking with his fans about his faith and doing things through his church.
