HCUDCM on Letterman last night

So I'm curious, what did ya'll think of Alicia Keyes doing a funked up version of How Come U Don't Call Me last night?

Personally, I wanted to like it, but.. I don't know maybe I'm prejudiced by the original, but I really wasn't feeling it when she got all fonkay. The musicianship was nice, but it just didn't feel right.

thoughts? comments??

p.s. she was hot as hell with that new do' last night! :O

don't feel it,the backup parts were cheesy too,not that P
himself can't be a super cheesbball at times, and that PAPA
shit blows.

She didn't even come close to kicking his ass.
It does seem like she tries to hard, while Prince makes it look so effortless.
And in 20 years, I seriously doubt she will be excellent musician and performer Prince still is.

I'm not really into Alicia either. I can definitely appreciate her talent but I really dislike her version of "HCUDCMA". Her vocals just sound so forced.

Her cover is LAME. She doesn't even come close to Prince's vocal range and piano playing ability.

Alicia's version sounds souless and contrived. Prince's captures the intensity of the moment.

And that AWFUL, AWFUL programmed drum beat that judders in mid-way with that terrible soul-esque organ. What was she thinking?!

She manages to turn an incredible song into a heartless stinker.

Overall, I find her completely over-rated. On half her songs you wouldn't know she even played the piano if she wasn't so up front with it in her promo videos.

"She manages to turn an incredible song into a heartless stinker."

You mean like Prince did with "I Can't Make You Love Me"? LOL

Ms. Off Keys Alicia blew up to quick, shes nothing but a repeat like any others individual who remakes work that has already been used on the radio. That Alicia Keys isn't unique at all and I would die before owning any of that remade newcomer music. Alicia Keys tried her hand by remaking a pro's music that got her sued just about. After the record companies get her for every cent shes owns she'll wish for a dollar to blow on. The reputation Alicia Keys owned before she remaded Prince's song "How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore" was here yesterday and will be gone before the crack of dawn tommorrow morning. Prince fams don't you worry your precious thoughts on this matter, them keys Alicia hit went over bad on her music career. Alicia Keys take this advice from a unique individual and go back to Columbia University because the career you owned before the remake has rotten. The come back song she did only last night only embarrassed her on television. I will never admire any woman who doesn't stick to her own style.

I like Alicia's version of HCUDCM.

I really wish I had seen her on Letterman (even though I think he is a tool).

eldog98, you're sooo right! I was so into that song...Blackwell kicking the Hi-Hat, Prince on the bass... and then this wannabe barking on it! Damn!
I think she's surely more talented than Britney Spears and the likes, but was just sh*t!
