WHAT is this particular track..

I downloaded it about 3 years ago..I used to have this very very amazing live 'rehersal-like' take on Erotic City.
The music was almost nothing like the original.

It is about 7 or 8 minutes long. The beginning has the same lyrics and arrangement but they go on into this wrenching guitar heavy driven mindblowing extended mania with synths to the fore all the way top the end.
it had to have been taken in the warehouse somewhere in 1984, cuz the linn drums sound about right at that time.

Are you talking about the rehearsal version which was on the Neon Rendezvous bootleg from the early 90´s ?

Does it get slightly interrupted in the middle when he says "..all the critics.." ?

I think it´s from that rehearsal...also contains great versions of Free, When Doves Cry, Irressistible Bitch and my favorite version of Something In The Water, almost 15 mins. long, plus a 13 version of Noon Rendezvous sung by Prince.

well, there's the birthday rehearsal from '84 that has some VERY funky guitar playing and some GREAT solos, but it's no more than 4-minutes long that i can remember, and it ends quite abruptly at prince's command -- it's from the same rehearsal where we first hear "roadhouse garden" and "our destiny" -- also has "all day, all night," "17 days," and "possessed" among others.

if these songs aren't part of the birthday rehearsal, then i'm wrong on the date and i didn't check the facts -- but it is from '84.

One rehearsal was from a year before, the one you mean has 17 Days, Roadhouse Garden, All Day All Nite, Free, Something In The Water, Erotic City etc.

That was one year earlier, the one I mean ( also known as the Neon Rendezvous bootleg) contains pretty much the same versions of Something In The Water, Free and Erotic City, minus 17 Days and Roadhouse Garden. The version of Noon Rendezvous is to die for.

I will see if I can look up the exact dates for both rehearsals, but I can understand PaisleyPark4´s amazement....these two rehearsals are among my favorite rehearsals, if not THE most interesting rehearsals ever.

the only rehearsal version of "erotic city" i've heard is the one on the now's the time boot.
