Okay, I'll help ya out with info on Vanity & Prince. I found the following on the Internet, and made a couple of my own corrections [in brackets].

Denise Katrina Matthews was given a difficult start to her life, having been abandoned very early in her childhood by her mother and forced to endure an abusive father. As a young adult she began to establish a career for herself as a model and actress, assuming the stage name 'D.D. Winters' and taking roles in b-movie fare such as Terror Train and Tanya's Island (both 1980).



In 1981, Prince presented his high school girlfriend Susan Moonsie [who was given a "teenage Lolita" image by Prince, knocking her age back to 16 for shock value], his wardrobe mistress Boston-native Brenda Bennett [who Prince gave a "tough-girl, cigarette-smoking" persona], and his personal assistant Jamie Shoop with an idea: Prince, himself a rising musical star, suggested that his three female friends form a girl group that would be called "The Hookers."



Ideally to Prince, the three women would perform in lingerie and sing sensual songs with lyrics about sex and fantasy. The original trio recorded a few demos before Prince met Denise Matthews, a nude model [well, she had posed in Playboy] and Canadian B-movie actress, in January of 1982 [at a music awards event]. Prince was so taken by Matthews' charisma [and drop-dead gorgeous looks too, I'm sure] that he decided that she would be the perfect front-woman for his "Hookers" project. Around this time, Prince and Matthews began a romantic relationship [with Jill and Susan kept in his back pocket for good measure]. [Vanity was also included in some "revealing scenes" in Prince's documentary concert film The Second Coming which was shot during his Controversy tour, in early 1982. This may have also been the time when Vanity recorded the song "Vibrator" among some other orgasmic vocals, later showing up in Prince's track "Orgasm" (which includes the ending guitar squeals and moans from a Controversy tune "Private Joy") on his Come album which was released more than 10 years later with Vanity being given credit as "she knows who she is"].



With Matthews' arrival, Shoop bowed out of the group. In the spirit of selfless generosity [yeah right], Matthews' new boyfriend decided to re-name her 'Vagina'. Even in her confused youth, Matthews recognized that a little restraint was in order, and the two compromised with the name 'Vanity' [Prince said he saw his female reflection when he looked at her] and the group name became Vanity 6 instead of The Hookers [with the number 6 symbolizing the group's breast count].



The eponymous debut from Vanity 6 (a trio also featuring the undergarments [uh, they were more than just that] of Brenda Bennett and Susan Moonsie) arrived in 1982, festooned with suspender belts, lacy fringe and saucy language. By this time, Prince was beginning to perfect his sexually explicit blend of funk, pop, new wave, and although the first single "He's So Dull" failed to make much of an impression [but did appear in the movie National Lampoon's Vacation], the second attempt "Nasty Girl" became a major crossover success [being featured in a movie with Eddie Murphy (who later dated Vanity's sister Patricia) Beverly Hills Cop and becoming a hit on the US R&B Chart and reaching #1 on the US Dance Chart, to be knocked out of this top spot by another Prince song "1999"]. "Nasty Girl" still has lasting impact to this day, being covered and remixed by many artists [including Prince himself in his '99 "Hot Wit' U (remix)", and Inaya Day's version which reached #9 in the UK during July 2005]. The lesser hit "Drive Me Wild" followed. Videos were filmed for all three singles. The album was certified gold status, selling at least 500,000 copies.



[During the Triple Threat Tour of 1982-3 (with Vanity 6, The Time, and Prince), Prince and Vanity took refuge alone together in one tour bus, while the rest of the band were confined to the other. According to Prince's guitarist Dez Dickerson, this was the beginning of Prince becoming estranged from the rest of the band. Many blamed Vanity]. To the other group members' dismay, Prince chose Vanity to pose with him for a Richard Avedon photograph used on the cover of an issue of Rolling Stone magazine. The issue with Prince and Vanity on the cover also contained a two-page Avedon photo of Vanity 6.



In 1983, Vanity recorded a demo for a new song, "Sex Shooter," [including many other songs for a 2nd Vanity 6 album -- note Brenda's "cigarette"-smoking vocals on Prince's "17 Days" which was also intended for this album] and started training for her lead role in Purple Rain opposite Prince. Prior to the shooting of the movie, Vanity decided to leave the Prince camp. Many reasons were given for her sudden split with him, including money, the end of their romantic relationship [Prince supposedly had his sights on other women], and most importantly, having been offered a lucrative solo offer from Motown Records. [While Vanity 6 was together, it was rumored that there was a fight between Brenda and Vanity, where Bennett supposedly had Vanity up against the wall by her throat, ready to punch her].



In 1984, Vanity was replaced in both the movie and album by Patricia Kotero, who had her own brief fling with fame under the name Apollonia. [Prince's hit "When Doves Cry" was inspired by his relationship with Susan. Susan married actor David Garfield in the 90's. David passed away in the late 1990s. Brenda was married to Prince's set-designer Roy Bennett].



Matthews managed to arrange a deal with Motown and, still working under the Vanity moniker (and the racy image that went with it), released two moderately successful albums: 1984's Wild Animal and 1986's Skin on Skin. During this time she also resumed her acting career, landing significant roles in Hollywood action flicks such as The Last Dragon (1985), Never Too Young To Die (1986) and 52 Pick-Up (1986).



After Skin on Skin Matthews' musical output evaporated completely [besides a song by Jesse Johnson "Faraway Eyes" and a song by Gerald (Jerry) Hubbard "Can You Kiss Me" (renamed "Undress" and released as a single) that she performed on the Action Jackson soundtrack in '88], but for the next decade she continued her work in film and television - usually keeping well inside the bounds of the action/thriller genre with which she had now become associated.



Appearances in Deadly Illusion (1987), Action Jackson (1988), [posing nude again for Playboy], South Beach (1992), Neon City (1992) and Da Vinci's War (1993) maintained her presence on the big screen, supplemented by roles in the television movies Memories of Murder (1990) and Lady Boss (1992) and series such as Miami Vice, Mike Hammer, Tales from the Crypt, Silk Stockings and Highlander.



[During this time, Vanity was shortly-engaged to the Motley Crue founder/songwriter, Nikki Sixx -- ironically, the marriage (if it had happened) would've given her the name Vanity Sixx. Vanity did marry a football player in 1995/1996 -- the marriage didn't last much more than a year before ending in divorce].



Over the years Matthews' extensive drug abuse had taken a serious toll on her health (causing damage to her liver, eyesight and hearing, and eventually resulting in a heart attack) [Prince supposedly sent her get well cards and flowers during this time, and made at least one phone call], and following her involvement in the low-budget thriller Kiss of Death, she announced that she had been born again [on August 16, 1997] and was formally renouncing the hedonistic lifestyle of her past. All ties with the entertainment industry were abandoned, and the former 'Vanity' subsequently established her own evangelical ministry. [Today, she can be found touring the country as an evangelist and sharing the good news of Jesus Christ in television interviews.]
