The Dance Electric

I know that many people hate these "imaginary album" threads, but I love them!

What If...

It's 1983, the negotiations with Warner Bros. for Prince to star in a movie have fallen through. Instead, he releases an album called 'The Dance Electric'. It's the best album of his career up to that point.

What's the tracklist?

The Dance Electric? God? Extra Lovable? Possessed? Electric Intercourse? U Call Me? Erotic City? Feel U Up? G-Spot? Do Yourself A Favor? Turn It Up?

I don't lie. One, there's no need for it. Second, it's not my style. The tracklist posted up above is quite different from the one I posted. Where I got my info was from an 84 issue of Black Beat. The article talks about the "in between album" from 83. Between the 1999 album and Purple Rain. That's the album I was talking about. P mentions this himself in his first cover story for Rolling Stone magazine.

Although I have posted that "Dance Electric" SHOULD have been kept by P and released instead of a lot of the material on ATWIAD.

Ok, correction... you were misquoted then.
(I only saw what LollyLolly 'said' you said, rather than what you actually said)

And you're right, he should've kept The Dance Electric for himself,
it's a great groove.

And yeah, Prince has mentioned that there was an 'inbetween' album shelved in '83
but he's never said what it was called or disclosed it's tracklisting as far as
I know.

Exactly! Don't change the sound while you're still hot. If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it.

A great album for the period would be:

The Dance Electric
Heaven
Extra Loveable
Electric Intercourse
Turn It Up
U Call Me
Purple Music
Possessed

But see, the key thing is player, is that I didn't say P gave up the tracklisting. I read this from an article in Black Beat from 84.

I'd toss in Baby U're A Trip just to cap it off though.

Prince speaking to Neal Karlen, Rolling Stone, 1985.

I write all the time and cut all the time. I want to show you the archives, where all my old stuff is. There's tons of music I've recorded there. I have the follow-up album to 1999. I could put it all together and play it for you, and you would go "Yeah!" And I could put it out, and it would probably sell what 1999 did. But I always try to do something different and conquer new ground.

I've always suspected that there was a "lost" album from 1983.As Blackguitaristz pointed out,it was even mentioned in a few magazines from back then.

I totally agree.I was never that crazy about 'ATWIAD',but I would have went crazy over an album containing stuff like "Extra Lovable" and "Electric Intercourse".

From this, to practically single-handedly inventing the genre "funk muzak".

I weep.
