Plenty of things.
-The lawsuits against his fans were embarassing. -He refuses to release CDs of his Vault material. -His online only songs are a pain in the ass. -He's sometimes hypocritical. -Sometimes he's too pretentious. -The fact he does everything on his albums isn't good anymore 'cause he's no longer a good producer. -His choice of religion is quite unfortunate. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

I didn't like when impromtu parties and jams for common fans ended. I know he's way up there with the cream of the crop and he deserves his fame. But as a Prince fan, nothing was better than seeing him play when the mood hit him.

purplecam said: One thing that I've learned since first logging on to prince.org is that it's alright for me not to like everything the man has done and I can still be a huge fan of his. We all obviously enjoy the man and his music but has there been anything that Prince has or hasn't done that's made you go ? For me, the one thing that stands out is Prince and his promotion or lack of promotion for his music. I know I shouldn't compare him to others but when I look at other artists like Madonna or MJ and how they promote their stuff, I can't help but wonder why Prince doesn't go big with his albums, Purple Rain, D&P and Musicology (even that wasn't the way it should have been), excluded. I've loved his music since I was in Kindergarten and I've always thought that Prince's music should be exposed in every area. When I think of an album like The Gold Experience, I get irked sometimes because I can only imagine what it would have been like if Prince had properly promoted the CD when it finally was released, not to mention the mess with WB that kept on delaying it. Why not have a video debut in the middle of prime time TV? He deserves to have specials done on him on MTV, VH1 or BET when a new CD drops but now that Prince is an independent artist, I don't know how that would work, even though WB wasn't on with him like they were Madonna.
What about you? Maybe it was him not releasing a certain song, or his name change or the websites controversy. Put it all here! Peace This has been bugging me 4 years!! I love his albums,if there a hit or not,but it's true that if he wanted to,he could have had much more succes with his albums if he did some promotion.(TGE is a good example) IMO if he would have stayed with WB this would be the case. (I didn't like the whole Slave and symbol thing, people really laughed at him about this. look at how The Stones or U2 do it! U2 releases a great(Everything you can't leave behind) or just a good album(How to dismantle..)every 4 years,a world tour and a lot of hype and...people still consider them to be the best rock band in the world though they love the old hits more but they are classics now and their name will never be forgotten. If Prince would have done this after TGE and after Rave... he would still be a bigger star. But U got 2 keep on playing your hits every time.Sorry, but that's the only way 2 stay in the picture. In 2004 he could have released a Musicology album including the better songs from Slaughterhouse/High/Chocolate Invasion. But...he didn't so we could enjoy much more music all those years Love4oneanother

My big concern with him now is that the last few officially released albums haven't had any true dance songs on them. The songs everyone remembers Prince by are the dance ones (1999, Kiss, Erotic City) and I have started wondering if he lost the ability to put a great dance song on CD. Being a JW didn't stop MJ or Janet from getting down. Vavoom was the last song that made me shake it but I believe it was recorded in 1999. Madonna is coming up with a dance album and I would sooooo love it if Prince would do something similar. Not to be like or follow her, but just to remind us that he can still party with the best of them. He still seems to go to parties, why not continue to make music to accompany them?
Thanks for giving your thoughts and opinions. [Edited 10/29/05 18:42pm] I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

All his albums since Lovesexy have been to self indulgent to enjoy, too many great songs are buried in a hodge podge of filler and experiments. Listening to the early albums, theres no filler or self indulgence, theyre all tight, Dirty Mind, Controversy, Parade and Purple Rain don't have one weak spot. 1999 and S.O.T do but the rest of these more than make up for it.
Prince hasnt done a masterpiece since Sign. 17 Years ago I made a commitment to Prince

i don't like that he is so secretive. i wanna know wht he likes to eat, favorite color, favorite movie, wht is his perfect date, why he chooses the women he does and they aren't allowed to speak of the relationship they had with him? so many things, but those are the main one's.
