If I luv U 2 nite ('79 version) I'm listening to a '79 version of If I luv U 2nite that I just found on Audiogalaxy. Does anyone know who the vocalist is? I recognize the voice but can't place it. Nice take on the song though. If you haven't heard it, check it out. If you have, fill me in.

"First done by The Rebels in 1979, Prince re-recorded this superior outtake with his falsetto vocals. It was then given to Mica Paris for her 1990 Contribution album. Mayte re-recorded it as "If I Love U 2night" for her 1995 Child Of The Sun album."

I think its Vanity. That isn't a guess, I'm sure I read it in a booklet from an unofficial album. I really like this song, but I think the best version was the one made in the late 80's with Princes vocals. Very nice.

it's not Vanity
I dont' remember her name right now, but you can read about it at www.guide2prince.org (which I can't access at present)... type "the rebels" in the search box and choose the bootleg under this name... in the comments you will find the name of the vocalist ______________

Thanks for clearing that up. I have the other versions but never know of this one's existence. The name Sue Ann Carwell rings bells too. Can't remember where from though.

Sorry. Maybe I'm getting confused with the original Sex Shooter before Appalonia (However U spell it) did it. It's still great though.

It's the version done by 'The Rebels' The lead vocal is by Gayle Chapman The Rebels were: Prince Andre Cymone Dez Dickerson Gayle Chapman Dr. Fink Bobby Z. The Rebels songs were: You Disco Away Thrill You Or Kill You If I Love You Tonight Hard To Get Turn Me On Too Long and 2 short instrumentals It was recorded inbetween 'Prince' and 'Dirty Mind'. Prince only sings backing vocals on the songs, Andre, Dez & Gayle take turns in singing lead. Not all the songs were written by Prince, and the whole thing was very much a band effort. Prince wrote 'You', 'Hard To Get', 'If I Love You Tonight' & 'Turn Me On'. Dez wrote 'Disco Away', 'Too Long' & one of the instrumentals. Andre wrote 'Thrill You Or Kill You' & the other instrumental. Only two of the songs have ever been officially released (in a re-recorded form). 'If I Love You Tonight' was recorded by Mica Paris in '91, and released on her album 'Contribution' (as 'If I Love U 2 Nite'). It was also re-recorded and by Mayte in '93, and released on her album 'Child Of The Sun' (as 'If Love U 2night). You was recorded by Paula Abdul in '91, and was released on her album 'Spellbound' (as 'U').

I am quite fond of the 91 Paula Abdul version of U- that is a cool song.
I also think If I Love U Tonight is cool, and actually, I think Mayte's version is the best.
