Alot of peolpe may not know this. But the movie "Purple Rain" actually more tickets in 1984 than "8 Mile" did in 2002-03.

Purple Rain sold 20.4 million tickets vs. 20.1 million for 8 Mile.
Also if you convert the inflation factor from 1984 to 2005, Purple Rain would've grossed to over 131 million dollars! 8 Mile would've grossed over 129 million by 2005' standards!

just my 2 cents.

Probably because they didnt have rampant bootlegging and internet piracy back in 1984.

50's new movie has even already leaked on the internet. I see orgers across the net doing reviews on it.

I'm curious to know what those of you under the age of 35 think. This could be a generation type thing.Young people into Hip Hop, Rap Battles and Eminem's music will probably choose 8 mile. Those of us who were in college or High School in 1984 are more likely to pick Purple Rain. Me personally, I liked 8 mile. It had some funny characters, Especially Cheddar Bob. And Kim Basinger did a good job playing Eminem's dysfunctional mom. But Purple Rain was a better film to me. It was a much more enjoyable film, and it just fit the times so well. DIAMONDGEEZA is right. 20 years from now 8 mile will be long forgotten.

Im 23. 20 years from now, 8 Mile definately be remembered as a prominent hip-hop film because of its Oscar-winning, crossover success.
