Sure enough, it's "I Feel 4 U." I know those chords anywhere: F#sus, F#, Esus, E7. That's what it is. Just before that, the brass plays the melody from Sheila E's "The Glamorous Life" in unison. [Edited 10/21/05 19:59pm]

It's a snippet of 'A Love Bizarre' followed by a snippet of 'The Glamorous Life' Followed by a snippet of 'I Feel 4 U' followed by Let's Go Crazy.

You're thinking of 'Soul Man' originally by Sam Cooke that Prince put a snippet of before 'Kiss'.

You're thinking of 'Soul Man' originally by Sam Cooke that Prince put a snippet of before 'Kiss'. "Soul man" would be by Sam and Dave not Sam Cooke Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.

Close, but still no cigar! "Soul Man" was by Sam MOORE and Dave PRATER. Sam Cooke, of course, was the soul legend who had hits like "You Send Me" and "A Change Is Gonna Come," and was dead by the time "Soul Man" was a hit. Sam Moore and Sam Cooke are completely unrelated.

Prince 'snippets' too much.
Highlights of the Musicology tour were to me the extended versions of I Feel For You, Controversy and D.M.S.R. Those rocked!

Prince did perform the whole of 'Soul Man' occasionally on the musicology tour, though Chance Howard did most of the singing.
