Well given that I have 200+ hours worth of Prince music you'd think "Rave" would somehow fit in there. Well, Kirk played drums on "Baby Knows" right? Not a fiver, but a decent track. I don't know about his involvement on "The Sun, The Moon & Stars", but that's one of my favourite cuts from Prince's late period. The guy totally destroyed "The Greatest Romance Ever Sold" and "Hot Wit U" though. They had potential, but the production is terrible.

Having said that Prince didn't even need Kirk Johnson's magical touch to make a total fool out of himself (and Chuck D.) on "Undisputed". Replace any element on that song and it still would suck donkey ass.

omg you didnt like greatest romance? i felt it was perfect! smile even dug the remixes cool

overall i liked alot of it sans everyday is a winding road, undisputed, and the title track boxed

he was reaching for a last bit of commerical success with a focused but kinda patchy cd i thought.

Yet you would consider Love 2 Tha 9s perfect? Unless there's a version without the Tony M. banter and "DANCE GIRL, LET ME SEE THE BOOTY BOOM!!" then that song is far...FAR...from perfect. It's glaringly flawed.

Purple Rain is a much better song than L2T9...IMHO.

I agree totally ..... love 2 the 9's is 1 of the least perfect tunes on TGE , especiallythat Boom Line sad

Fine but Love 2 the 9's is NOT on The Gold Experience (at least on mine version lol

How comes nobody mentions "CREAM" - imho this is his most perfectly prduced song- Every note in Cream is perfect. Change one single note in "CREAM" then the whole song is "destroyed"

I mentioned Cream...I think it's one of his truly perfect pop songs.

Well, it could have been so much better. The drum sounds Kirky J. was using on NPS& Rave I don't think work at all with Prince's style of writing music, and the bridge section with the "arabic influences" is just, well, clumsy. I don't hate TGRES with passion, but I do feel it was one of his weakest singles.

ah,i get'cha. smile i mean really wtf was that kirky j era about? the drums were usually programmed kirky. prince must've really felt he was a good friend(or he he was gonna black mail prince) to let him hang around for that long. smile

Yeah, Kirky J just didn't match with Prince's music at all. I can honestly say he ruined a lot of potentially good Prince songs.

funny, you would think emancipation would be a diverse, kooky prince album. especially after all he went through to free himself to put out his own music.but he has this very safe r&b sound on it.i still dig alot of it...its a good set(minus some stuff) just a bit plastic at times. smile
