What's the feeling on Glam Slam

Don't get me wrong, I think Lovesexy is a materpiece, but I always wonder with this track whether I really like it, with it being so unbelievably cheesy and all. When it gets going I think it's cool. But Escape is a much better track in my opinion.
I'm testing postive 4 the funk

Well, it's a "thanksgiving song" to Ma'am. Great, isn't it . Isn't she a lucky girl ?

thumbs up! Escape is stellar.

I like Glam Slam, it doesn't push any boundaries, but it's enjoyable, and the 'orchestral' part at the end is great, the remix is good too.

Does anyone know for sure if he sampled the Glam Slam beat from Around the World in a Day or re-create it with a drum machine or a Fairlight or what?

MY FAVORITE P VIDEO EVER!

That video was the video to show the end of an ERA.

All the band in it, singing and dancing. the audience going wild. captured everything!

the song is awesome too, i like the little guitar hook during the chorus.

i wish there were more verses tho... kinda that LADY CAB DRIVER situation. nice little verses, long instrumentals.

I think I asked this exact question a couple months - to a year ago. I find it fun, inspired, confusing-- in essence, just like love/lust/and life.

Why would he sample something that he also has tracked himself? And the Fairlight is a sampler... but it's not really the same beat even, you know... smile

Yes, it is. I've said that for years. And when I say same beat, I'm just speaking to the kick drum pattern. I don't think how ever it's sampled. Just reprogrammed.

Of course it's the same beat. The kick drum is what I'm talking about. The BEAT. Have you listened to it? Also, yes, he started sampling himself around this time period especially with the Batman tracks.

Thank you. Do you have any idea what he may have used to reprogram it on?

I think it was just the Linn. Could be wrong on that though.

I've always had a soft spot for "Glam Slam" and it is probably my favourite track on "Lovesexy". The only thing I don't like about the track is the keyboard wig-out at the end, which absolutely ruins it for me and has me leaping for the STOP button.

I've always liked the song mainly cuz it reminds me of T Rex. Not as blatant as P's later song "Cream" is to T Rex's "Get It On (Bang A Gong), but Glam Slam has a Marc Bolan vibe to it. The video is cool as well. I dig that P's blindfolded.

One thing I do remember: Begging all three of my local stations to play it and none of them willing to do so. I talked with one station manager for like 15 minutes asking him why they wouldn't play it and he couldn't come up with a more rational argument thah he thought it sucked.

I like the song, musically better than lyrically. It just seems to go nowhere lyric-wise but musically it soars. The end orchestration is just brilliant. I liked the video as well, the 5 times they played it on MTV (which was 4 times more than they played "I Wish U Heaven").
All good things they say never last...

I love the song. Always have. I remember me and my uncle singing along to the song shortly after he brought it for me. I love the end with the instrumental. Plus the video was hot. Like someone said before, it sums up an era.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that
