A 'Prince does swing' album???? Could be fun.

Just heard '2 Heads R Better Than 1' from the Kansas City soundcheck - it is a straight-up 40s-style swing number!!!

It also seems that he is teaching the band the music - I think he wrote it. Doesn't sound like a cover. Something in his directions just indicates that it's his song. Maybe this is from an upcoming project?

Now that he's started focusing on live horns again, I want to hear a full original swing album from him, with a full band. He's done various swing-influenced songs over the years (Delirious, Horny Toad, Courtin' Time, Jack U Off) - but never with the production style he's using now.

Is this something you'd like to see from NPGMC? What do you think of this new song and/or his other swing-influenced tracks?

I haven't heard this new song, but I know I would be all over it. I love Prince's swing. I'm one of the few that thought Courtin Time was a really cool song. I'd like a swing album, personally.

I don't know who sings the song but I heard it in the Woody Allen movie "Deconstructing Harry".

So it is a cover then? I don't know the movie, although I like Woody Allen. Are you sure it's the same song?

That would make sense as I don't think Prince actually says '2 heads r better than 1' in the song, and yet that's how it's labeled on the tracklist.

Still, a swing album would be fun.

No it doesn't at all. Great arrangement, live sounds - more like the end of It's About That Walk.

when you say, "2 heads are better than one", i think you folks are talking about the song, "twisted". it's by annie ross, and joni mitchell does it on court and spark. this was featured in the movie deconstructing harry. since he loves joni, it makes sense that prince would dig it, and cover it too. personally, i love when he stretches out, so if it's gonna be a swing album, you can count me in.

My first reaction to this thread was, "No way!" But, you got my attention when you compared the sound to "It's About that Walk." I adore that song!

whew! sometimes I think I'm the only one who likes Courtin' Time. It sounded so different on Emancipation. On a 36 song set where so many songs echoed each other, I appreciated the different style. At the time, Coutin Time would always end up on my party mixes sandwiched next to It's Oh So Quiet by Bjork.

I'd totally dig a "swing" style album, it's be nice to hear P stretch his music legs again...

I didn't believe Courtin' Time was really Prince until I heard him start singing (which was well into the song by then!) I think it's great, and I'm glad to see other people acknowledging it, too.

That would be great. I love to hear Prince branching off into different styles. He has the freedom to do that now, as we have heard on the great ONA disc.

'About that Walk' was fantastic. Sorely overlooked on that Album.

What a good thread.

He has the freedom to do that now, huh? As if he's never dabbled in rock, funk, unplugged, jazz, house, techno, rap, pop, balladry or any other type of music before ONA? I seem to remember roughly 18 years he spent with WB branching off into different styles.
